Motherboard - Gigabyte ga p55a ud4p

Intel i7 2600k quad core unlocked 3.4 MHz

250 soild state drive

Evga geforce gtx 570

i have about £1000 pound to spend what do you people think?

nice intro post :rolleyes::D

I'd go for a z68 or x79 board
You haven't specc'd any ram either, will will vary depending on which board you DO choose.

Heh, oh yeah, didn't even notice that myself.
gary, for your first build, i'd go for a bundle if i were you.
But trawl the boards first for reading info. You'll get plenty of ribbing over your first post, but you'll also get good advice, stick with it. ;)

lol as i say im a beginner dont no what im talking about lol so that mother board and cpu wont work thats a good start lol. i wont be the person building it i have a friend that will do it for me. should i buy a i5 2500k and spend the extra cash on a gtx 580?

I'm struggling to see how you will fit a 2500K, GTX 580 and a 250GB HDD in for £1000.

With the CPU, graphics and SSD i'm up to £800 and still need a motherboard, case, PSU, OS? and DVD drive.

Edit: And memory.

Then get your friend to spec it up surely.
Do you already have a decent size monitor and all the other bits?

My advice, dont jump into it you done the right thing by consulting people before acting but read into guides and material on the internet. You could rely on other people to spec your system but you may not be satisfied with their choices... :) Also gives you a chance to expand your budget

as asked what are you after just the 'tower'(case, motherboard, CPU, etc) or do you need a monitor etc. operating system? Also do you(your friend) have an old sata harddisk you can use? The prices are crazy at the moment, you could get a 1gb for £40 now a 160g is almost double.

basic spec tower only, do you plan on adding a second graphics card(sli) in the future(buy 1 570/580 now then add a second 570/580 in the future, you can't slain 570 with a 580 has to be 2 570 or 2 580).

i2500k £168

mb msi z68a-g65 g3 £150 (cashback offer if you buy by 21st November making it £125 once you get the cheaque)

ram Kingston hyperx genesis grey 8gb pc3-12800 1600mhz £40 not worth getting faster than 1600mhz ones

CPU cooler gelid tranquilo £26 cheap/cheerful and allows you to oc CPU to 4.6ghz

Psu corsair enthusiast series tx850m 850w modular £114 don't cheap out by getting £20/£30 psu unless you like fireworks in your pc, if you don't plan on adding a second graphics card(sli) in future can get the tx650m 650w one instead

ssd 128gb crucial m4 £155 256gb version is double

dvdrw £15-£20 pick one tho pioner retail version(comes with Nero burning software) £19 down from £21

graphics card msi 570 £260 msi 580 twin forzer is £90 more at £350

case silverstone raven 3 £110

no hdd or os, comes in at little over £1k before you add delivery(if you go for the 580 and 256gb ssd you're looking at an extra ~£250).

msi cashback offer details http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18338613

I want to spec the computer myself. Not let my friend do it he builds computers for business use and is not a gamer at all. Basically I want the pc to have i7 2600k, gtx 580, a motorboard that has 3.0 USB and will let me sli the gtx 580 Later on. I have a hard dive from my old pc. My budget could stretch a couple hundred pound. And could save money by going for 120gb ssd. What mother board would suit my needs?

Still didn't answer the question of do you need monitors etc in the budget or just the 'tower', also do you need windows 7 included in the budget or do you already have a copy.

if you want 580 add £90 to the above spec(the msi 580 twin forzer is currently £345), for i2700k(only several quid more than i2600k) add £94 so £184 to the above spec. if you need an os it's another £80(£264 ontop of the above spec).

unless you're going to be using programs that support hyperthreading it's not worth spending the extra getting the i2600k/i2700k, for gaming i2500k is more than enough.

a cheap case in a £1k build?

If you're going to for a £140 gigabyte go for the better z68x-ud5, maybe missing the onboard vga but the rest of the specs is better.

why do you keep suggesting the c10 crucial RAM when a c9 corsair or Kingston(which ever is on offer at the time) is only a few pounds more?

the i2500k oem price is today only.

Im planing on just using the keyboard and mouse from old pc. And connecting my pc to my 1080p 48 inch tv is this a good or bad thing? As for windows my friend will sort that out for me.Thanks for all the help I'm getting here.

a cheap case in a £1k build? If I specced an expensive case it would be a 1.1k build.(cases are a personal choice so the OP may want to change it anyway, no matter which one you suggest)

If you're going to for a £140 gigabyte go for the better z68x-ud5, maybe missing the onboard vga but the rest of the specs is better. Because the ud5 is an old spec with a lot of the z68 features missing, and that price is this week only.

why do you keep suggesting the c10 crucial RAM when a c9 corsair or Kingston(which ever is on offer at the time) is only a few pounds more? Because that's what I've got, it's cheaper and performs just as good if not better than any c9 ram i've compared my bench marks to (mine was one of the quickest 1m super pi times @ 5GHz)

the i2500k oem price is today only. That's the best price at the time I specced it, the price difference over the retail one made it worth while at the time.

whats with all the 850W PSU suggestions in threads today? Bit overkill unless you're going crossfire/sli.....

EDIT: and as for the cheap case in a 1k build argument, that's a poor argument. Some of these cheaper cases are good value for money and the best place to loosen up some funds for the components which ultimately make your machine better.

i agree with the PSU being 850. He did state that he wants to sli later on.
