Beginner DSLR user needs some software...

DP what is the best way to use the Nikon software just to convert the raw file and then edit in LR6?

I'll second this question, because at the moment I just copy the files to my "RAW" hard drive, then import to LR6 in that location. I hope I'm not missing out on quality here
