Beginner overclocking i3 540 help!!

Hi can anyone help with overclocking my core i3, do i have to mess with the memory settings when overclocking the cpu? Also when overclocking do i have to change the voltage on the cpu??

I would like to get it up to 4ghz really!

Hi there,

Yes you will have to mess with the memory settings when you are overclocking - as you will need to keep an eye on the memory frequency as you overclock the CPU (increase the BCLK) as the memory will get clocked above it's rated frequency unless you reduce the memory multiplier.

As for changing the CPU voltage - to hit 4GHz you will certainly need to increase this.

Your best bet is to find a detailed i3 Overclocking guide and work from there.

May I ask what CPU cooler you have?

yeah you'll need a decent cooler to overclock...don't use the stock one
