Behaviour of manager at work

I think it would be better if she approached the manager herself rather than getting her bf to do it (unless the OP and manager know each other well). If I had an issue with someone at work I wouldn't send my wife round to speak to them (and conversely if someone had an issue with me I'd find it odd if their partner came knocking).

Well yes but i was taking into account the fact that his gf gets upset just thinking about the confrontation.

They both work in the same place.

wow at this thread..

your gf is being overly sensitive, which is understandable. She will get fat, thats pregnancy for you. People making comments arent doing it maliciously in 99.9% of cases and especially in this case as you said she is a friendly person.

the absolute first port of call would be mentioning it to the manager herself. your gf doesnt have to do it, you can. just go have a quiet word and ask her to tone it down as your gf is a bit upset about it. she will probably be horrified that she was causing offence and stop immediately amid floods of apologies.

all this talk of going directly to HR without even mentioning any offence being taken are a sad commentary on todays Britain. :/

HR is there for this very reason so WTF are you on about!!!!

Calm down :)

What i'm on about is the passive aggressive culture that has come about which ties into political correctness in this day and age.

There is no evidence whatsoever that this women is trying to bully the girl, or even any indication that she even knows she is causing offence. I am around quite a lot of pregnant women and new mothers and hear these comments endlessly, usually from the women themselves and their friends.

It is not something that is uncommon at all. This manager needs to stop this if it is causing offence but she also needs to know that she is causing offence in the first place.

Going straight to HR without even mentioning the issue to the manager seems ridiculous and way over the top. Why escalate something in such a serious way that may sour a working environment for the girl in question and the OP. Why not be a normal person and simply mention that her comments are causing offence?

Well, managers should manage the staff in correct manner and it is a responsibility of manager to look after his/her staff and think about their satisfaction!

No business links. Thank you.
