Being 21 really makes a difference!!

Does it really drop that much when you hit 21?

Roll on next year.
Does if you have points or drive a fastish car. Unfortunatly I have both so insurance companies dont like me very much

This is my first year on the road, just turned 23 yesterday and only started driving a few days ago and i'm laughing.

Quinn Direct give me £560 TPFT and £1074 Full Comp. Excess is £135.

Wonder what it's like when i'm 25 and have four NCB in my name, fingers crossed.

21 made a pretty big difference for me but not really in price so much. An M3 would still set me back about £3k to insure, similar to what I paid when I was 18, but now I can at least insure it in my own name, along with other cars like a Boxster or an S500.

Funnily enough, the 5.0 V8 360bhp S500 is only £2k to insure, and I have 0 NCB! Pretty good I thought for a group 19 car!

Heh, mine is £411 a year!! :p

And that's for two drivers on three cars.....

Gotta' love pushing 40 when it comes to insurance :D

198 quid fully comp for me and mrs on a chipped a4 tdi estate worth 9k :)

edit we're 25 and 26 respectively, with 7 yrs no claims

My insurance renewal used to be about 2 weeks before my Birthday.

When I was about to turn 22 I decided not to drive for two weeks so I could start the insurance after my birthday Saved me £75, wish I'd done it the year before.

I was paying £1300 on a 1.8 Mondeo when I was 20 with Liverpool Victoria. When I got my renewal through a couple of months after turning 21 it had dropped by about £10 :/

So I changed my insurance to Churchill and am now paying £600 for the same cover :)

There's not a sudden drop on your 21st birthday. With online quotes, just play with your birthdate, it changes month by month. If you get a quote a month before you are 21, then most of your insurance will be for when you're 21 anyway. Yes, your apparent risk does decrease fairly quickly around the age of 21. However, most of these big drops are a combo of an extra year of driving experience, a year's no claims and one year more towards the grave.

Im 21 and paying about £900 for TPFT on a 1.6 Focus.

But I've only been driving less than a year. Hoping that after a year or so it will drop enough to get a decent fully comp quote.
