Being fat and ugly doesn't count as being disabled

That's a horrible thing to do to someone. Having said that, if you don't actually have the badge then you shouldn't be in the space.

I would have left a less personalised letter. I left one one a Smart Car recently calling it small and stupid, but it was, and I wasn't commenting on the owner. I only called them moronic...

Agreed. I would have just put "disabled badge holders only" on the note. Maybe query it at Tesco's CS desk. The fact that she was plus-sized was irrelevant.

Not remotely news worthy but funny none the less.

So if you don't need a permit to park in a supermarket disabled bay is it down to honor or just a free for all and go Full freeman of the land know your rights, when you get grief for it ?

Not having a blue badge means don't use disabled parking bays unless you want to be known as a ****. Simple really.

So you would left such a nasty note as well? There is such a thing as making a point while showing a bit of class at the same time.

I wouldn't have left a note. I would have just highlighted it to the store. The note was excessive, but arguing you have been insulted when behaving poorly is not going to garner much sympathy

Why do supermarkets have so many damn disabled bays in the first place. They are hardly used and they would be better off having more parent and child spaces

They've normally got to cater for so many to meet planning regs. My office has 20 disabled spaces for example. Only one is ever used with any regularity and it's just by a dude with a range rover who thinks he's allowed to park where he wants. Gets a ticket most weeks and just throws them on the floor.

tis down to 'honour' I guess, generally as you can see from the thread, the expectation would be that people would have blue badges anyway - though as with the case for this woman - if you've got a legit reason to use it then there shouldn't be anything stopping you

yes technically someone could be a bit of a tool and just park in one regardless and give it the whole 'I know my rights'... then again the supermarket are entitled to request you move your vehicle

I want to see the entire blue badge scheme overhauled.

IMO there should be reserved parking allocated for wheelchair uses only not just for anyone who's managed to pick up a blue badge because of a stubbed toe.

My justification for this is this...

Your in a wheelchair and you go shopping, All the disabled spots are taken. Now because you NEED extra room to get the chair out you can't park in a regular spot. So you have to either float round waiting for a space or give it up as a bad job.

If you're not in a wheelchair but have a blue badge and the disabled spots are taken you're still able to use a regular space.

People with blue badges tend to be quite severely impaired in mobility, I can think of one person I know with one off the top of my head and said person has bad MS.

Yes but they are perfectly capable of using a regular space if it comes down to it, where as a wheelchair user has to have a disabled space.

They need more space to enter and exit a car. Plus if on crutches will need more space to maneuver. They may need help getting in or out.
So no, they can't use a regular space.

Bull, 99.5% of the time they can manage with a regular spot. The only issue is distance.

How the hell is that bull. With a regular space how is someone meant to help them out of the car? Or how are they meant to get crutches out and in position without opening the door to full width?

+1, and also most blue badge holders don't have one because of a stubbed toe, like I said, they tend to have some pretty serious mobility issues which need a bigger space.
