Long shot, not sure how many people on here are from Belfast and happen to be on the Malone exchange, just thought I'd ask

Fed up with Sky, all they could provide is the rubbish Connect package but thankfully my contract is up soon. Virgin before them was also dire as was BT before that (top package available). My line stats are ok apparently, and speed (or rather ping which bothers me most) is absolutely fine between midnight and early afternoon but unfortunately I have to work :p It seems there is far to many people on this exchange to handle at peak

BT can't tell me if I can get FTTC yet or any sort of time frame. Virgin have no plans to cable my street. The next street over can have 50MB cable

Basically I want to know who you are with and what sort of speeds you get during the evening :D

If you are not sure check http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search

That's what the exchange has to offer

Thanks for any help

Edit: BT told me my line length was about 800 meters.

Strange you can't get Virgin.

When you say, "Virgin before them was also dire..." i assume you were on Virgin's ADSL package?

I'm hopefully moving into a flat on the Lisburn Road which luckily has Virgin. I would have thought, being so close to the exchange, that your street would be cabled. You should try contacting Virgin and asking them to send out a "spotter" or whatever they call it now to check to see if your street is viable for cable.

Aye I'm off of Ashley Avenue, right on the Lisburn Rd. Lovely area but crap BB. I had virgin ADSL before which was ok until the last 3 months of my contract. Pings all over the show. VM said there was no chance of getting cable to my street :(

BT have put a shiny new cabinet on my street though, but they're painfully unhelpful in being able to give me an estimate for FTTC

Does the BT checker not give a date? Strangely, my house now (country side) has had FTTC available for a good while, but when I punch my number into the checker now, it says there is no date scheduled. So maybe they are updating there systems or something, because it has happened before, saying its not available when it clearly is.

If they installed a cabinet, then it should be available fairly soon. Think it was around a month from the construction to it being able to accept orders for me. Could be longer in the city though due to more houses.

Last i was made aware sky were doing most LLU exchanges from the craigavon area towards belfast.
Strange i know but when i was checking fttc availablitly a year or so ago the first enabled cabinets were
Bangor and craigavon, then inwards towards belfast.

Contact sky and ask if there is any plans to upgrade the exchange your connected too, most exchanges in your area already have been.

Or like you have said, contact virgin and ask if your area has any plans on being cabled.

Ive been with virgin for 12 years in derry, and our analogue tv has only been upgraded to digital this month,
Even though i lived in belfast 5 years ago and they already had it.
