I dont know why everyone is surprised Maldonado got off so lightly, the FIA set a precedent for this kind of incident at the FIA GT1 meeting at Silverstone earlier this year.

while I'm not his biggest fan, Vettel has been the best driver of the season with a little bit of the rub of the green. Button is a close second though.

Yeah having a wheel come off and other mechanical failures really helped Button He has done as well as expected given that plus some poor team decisions for him and Hamilton.
