There’s something in the water. Josh Hartnett, Charlie Heaton and Mackenzie Davis star in BELOW, a suspenseful new thriller set on the rugged coast of Newfoundland. Only on Netflix, October 8.

I've noticed a heck of a lot of films lately about things in the sea, creatures, big sharks etc, seems to be a trend at the moment for some reason

Currently on episode 5/6. It follows the typical trend of NF jank by starting out strong and then nosediving midway through.

The cast is superb, the cinematography is superb, there's a Lovecraftian tone here that reminds me of the game Dredge, however the show follows Jaws a lot before it goes off the rails later on. Josh Hartnett's character is the father of a few kids who you are introduced to very fast however these kids are literally his age - it is quite jarring when you hear them calling him 'dad'.

It’s ok. I did think Jaws as well.

If you look at their DOBs only Charlie Heaton would mean Josh Hartnett was getting some underage.

Disclosure is near that's why :p

I finished this series over 2 days this week, was enjoyable and actually believable since we know very little about the extent of the ice and oceans.

I watched this earlier, the best I can say about it is that it was "okay" and didn't overstay its welcome.

Not the worst show you could spend time on, felt a little disjointed/all over the place. Acting was very hit and miss, production values in general were much the same.

Would give it a 5.0-5.5 out of 10.

They should do a proper Cloverfield sequel if they’re all on this sea theme. It originally crashed into the sea I believe.

Yeah, that's exactly how I felt. Started really well and I was intrigued.

The last 2 episodes though just sucked all the good out of the series. Solid 5/10 middle of the road material.

falls off fast once it's basically climate change propaganda messaging.

would have been better as a horror/thriller with a bit of mystery about it. not climate change makes thing come into contact with humans.

shoulda came to earth in an asteroid or something else, the result of an underwater nuke test.

also whats with the terrible irish/newfoundland accents? why have them? if the cast isnt irish why do it? just jarring seeing people I know are american who speak american with american accents.

Josh hartnett also resembles ashoton kutcher too much, I have to google and make sure I wasn;t watching an actor who gave a cahracter refference for a rapist

Why not tie the show monster to something in real life lore or creepy pasta.... AI helped write the script for the sure...

Is no one asking why they wanted icebergs for icecubes. I'm sure they had fridgefreezers in their houses.

Google is your friend

Real-world tradition: The plot mirrors a real-life industry in Newfoundland and Labrador, where ancient Arctic ice is harvested to make specialty "iceberg vodka" and high-end cocktail ice.

Type "why they wanted icebergs for icecubes in the tv series below" into Google and you'll get some spoilers.

Well after that perhaps they should use a freezer :D

It does feel like they put Peter Benchley novels into AI and asked it to add some environmental elements. Plus got it to use Jaws 2,3 and 4 as basis for the script.
