Like your thinking turn it into a complete parody.
The Guardian review had already said it had elements of Monty Python.
Also saw it cost less to make than the original - 100M$ and original in todays money 120M$ - so you get what you pay for ?
It is almost tempting to see it to be able to be able to comment more on the CGI effects - CGI might be good for explosions/robots/ & people moving comparatively slowly, but for the physiology of a moving horse that is probably difficult (how many computer games involve animals ? life of pi + new 'planet of apes' - so-so, but have not seen tarzan)

A few of the characters do come across very Monty Python looking now you mention it lol
Seriously, its been the best redo of a classic film I've seen that includes.
Robocop, Total recall, Ghostbusters and other childhood favourites..
Its only junk if you compare it to its source, on its own i think its watchable.

If there was another film that did not need re making it was 1959 Ben hour. It was an epic. The cast, the effects all of it fantastic
It didn't need a cgi remake, they could not have done it better.
I hope it fails and stops Hollywood from remaking things that were simply not broken.

Original Ben-Hur was on C5 HD yesterday middayish - anyone else record it ?
the quality seemed very poor despite the 1080p and 5Mb/s C5 HD (and BBC HD also) broadcast freeview at.
I guess they do not have access to the latest 1080p re-masters of it ? had expected it to be a feast.
