heading up Ben Nevis for the first time this sat.
a group of us are flying to glasgow on Fri night. driving up and going up on sat (weather being okish)

any one got any advise for me

Regardless of what the weather looks like at the bottom take snacks/water in case you get stuck as well as some warm gear to wear because the weather can be quite changeable up any Scottish mountain (or just in Scotland in general).

Most of its up, till you reach the very very top. And then it tends to slope away rather sharply.

I think people wholey underestimate BN, thinking it's some sort of walk in the park

You can be caught out on it just as you can on any mountain side.

Correct clothing(temp at summit is <freezing), equipment(navigation) and preparation(chk weather before leaving) is paramount.

yes have been doing a hillwalking in ireland for a few years (but we nothing as high) and been to the lakes twice

take the usual gear
map , compass, torch, light waterproofs, snacks
GPS is handy if you have it but dont count on it working (hence take maps too)

I did Ben Nevis with a couple of mates back in 1985 after I finished school. I remember getting to the top utterly knackered and went in that little tin hut at the top and was offered rum by some germans. Could not see a thing from the top, complete cloud cover. Must have been a popular time of year to do it because it was almost a queue to get up there.

In May of '05 at the summit.
