Benchmarking cards

I have a 8800GTS OC 320mb and struggling to find out if it's faulty or not, it seems slow in games and I want to know what the best way is to benchmark it?

With the ATiTool, the 3d furry cube, I get 120fps Average, does that sound right?

Thanks, if anyone can compare their benchmarks/fps to mine it would help me. :)

Do as the others have said. This, however does not sound right. My old AGP 4x ATi 9100 got about the same FPS. If the other tools mentioned run fine I wouldn't be worried.

The CPU's a serious bottlenecking factor there. May as well buy a ferrari and give it concrete wheels

Have a go at overclocking the CPU and watch the 3dmark score jump.

Dont expect it to jump far with that CPU, he needs a core2 or AMD X2 and the more cores the better to see so a substantial jump in score in 3DMARK6, it just loves multi core CPU's.

Well I just got 5189 with the rig in sig (but with the ram at 189mhz and the cpu at 2.6)

The OP should get more than that, his card is way better than mine

Fair point and perhaps I exaggerated. All I'm saying is there will be a clear increase in score through overclocking the 3500+ :)

ATiTool isn't a benchmark, it's just there to stress the card. Pay no attention to it. It's like Linux geeks comparing glxgears frames per second figures. Niether is intended to be a measure of performance.

AMD64 3500 (2.2ghz, stock)
1gb DDR (2x 512mb 2700)
BFG 8800GTS OC 320mb

I got on 3dMark06:
5685

I get 0fps in CPU1 test, lol.

 Woah, i didnt expect the CPU to bottleneck the card THAT much,

I used to get 5900 3dmark06 score with:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3ghz
Asus P5W DH Deluxe
2GB Geil Ultra low lat
7800GTX 256mb

The jump to my Ati/Amd HD 2900 XT has boosted my points up to 11300 Ish

What about the ATiTool too? 120fps average sucks, that can't be CPU related surely?

:(

Something's got to be up there...

I get 1200 to 1400 with my GTX. You should be getting at least 800 or so I would imagine.

Did you have an ATI card before this one? I'm guessing some kind of driver interference...

If it was a new build check you have properly installed the motherboard drivers.

Score doesn't sound too far off the money to me. I haven't benched for ages as I'm usually too busy actually using my PC for stuff, but on a similar system (2.5ghz A64, 2gig PC3200 and the same gfx card) I think I get around that.

3dmark2006 is severely biased against single core CPUs so I would only make comparisons with other A64s.

That stupid furry cube runs at around 800fps but I wouldn't pay much attention to that.

Check you're not running 3DMark with AA/AF etc on

They are off.

I had a Nvidia 6600 before, I cleaned my drivers off and reinstalled the drivers a few times too on the 8800. Motherboard is upto date.

Just had a look on the 3DMark ORB, put in the following details:

Athlon 64 2000-2200MHz
8800 GTS
XP
WHQL Drivers

This was the highest score that came up. So maybe it is about right?
