Benedict Cumberbatch OUTRAGE!!!

BKB shines a dim light on the problem with people obsessively picking over the minutiae and totally missing the context and intent of the original - a sort of life imitates art thing perhaps?

Previous observations of other people out in the world endlessly picking over the dessicated bones of a topic, news story or some such thing, seem to indicate that they either do it on purpose because they just like to argue, or they genuinely believe what they're saying because they are just plain old stupid. Either way a lot of time and effort is expended with the end result being FA - a factor that is common to all such 'debate'.
I pretty much agree with this. Normally, it's pretty obvious when someone is using derogatory terms in order to be hurtful. I admit that popularising terms that others would see as derogatory isn't great, but surely clearly 'accidentally' using a term without thinking shouldn't be considered to be in the same league as someone deliberately using it to antagonise?

Well if you heard the stories of how sadistic the Japanese were with the Chinese during WW2 it's understandable. But i do think it's time the Chinese got over it as virtually everyone who fought in the war is dead now and the Japanese people is almost entirely different to those from the 40's

Indeed, in fact they were getting over it, up until about 15 years ago, when the gov decided to push anti-Japan again. It would be trivial for them to justifty war with Japan to their own people at the moment.
