Title sounds a bit presumptious (sp?) i know lol.

I left college in July and went onto Job Seekers Allowance which gave me £45 a week which paid my mum for rent.

2 months ago i got a job and because it was less than 16 hours, i could claim still but now they've decided that i earn too much and won't give me any more money.

I earn £3536 a year annual basic, which is a whopping £68 a week, and apparantly that's too much.

So minus the rent that i give my mum from that and i'm left with about £20 for my weeks work.

So i'm pretty much stuffed in that matter, and it seems i was better off not working (and they wonder why so many people don't want to work)

I was told that i should be able to claim housing benefit.

WRONG, because i live with my parents who are on income support and incapacity benefit anyway because my dad is disabled.

So is there anything i can claim to help pay my rent, because at this rate i should just go back on JSA, i was better off in a way and had no work to do for peanuts.

Please guide me :(

I really do wonder why life is all about sometimes :(

tbh you're better off getting a full Monday - Friday or another 16hr job for the days you're not working at your current one.

Yet another vote for find a new job. There's plenty of stuff going. You'll be lucky to find something totally desirable, but hey- you need money right?

Yup just get a decent job locally that offers 35 - 40 hours a week (full time).

you shoul get around £6-7 an hour depending on the job (cashier at tescos or something) which would net you £210 - 240 a week depending on how many hours you work.

You will have enough for rent and enough for other things that you want in life.

No offence, but I'll get the standard reply out of the way for you now.

Why the hell don't you have a proper job and start earning money?

Took me long enough to find this job and i love the job.

I started looking for work as soon as i left college in July and i only got this job 2 months ago (my first interview since i left college)

If it was easy to find a full time job in my area i would.

I've asked my boss about more hours and guess time will tell with that.

But you obviously don't rejoice in being left with £20 a week, do you? Have you made a CV? Get a stack of em done, and handed round at every retail store you can think of. It's no good sitting on your backside waiting for the ideal job to come along, you have to make a hearty effort. It shouldn't take 2 months to find a job of any description, you're either being too selective or not making enough effort.

pleny of jobs u can do
paper round
milk rounds

9>5 jobs offices (** using a computer so u must be able to type, use a photocopier etc)

shelf stacking @ local supermarkets?

delivereing magazines around town / villages?

plenty of ways to get cash other than skinping on the dole

hell these days they even give you £30 just for going to collage!
wish i got that when i went

good luck in finding your goals but dont exepect to live off jbs its there as a stopgap not to live off

This is going to be the best idea.

Look around near where you live for agencies which offer temping office jobs. The only thing is you NEED to keep hassling them, don't just go in, sign up and wait. Sign up with as many as you can and then call them every few days until they're so sick of you calling up that they find you something.

It can certainly be a foot on the ladder especially if you can get temp work in a decent company. I started working as a temp for Camden County three and a half years ago, now I run it!!!!*

I've never known Kent to be a hotbed of unemployment. Where exactly do you live?

Whilst you might love the job you have now, you've already told us its not providing enough dosh. So there are two choices - Stay in the job you love and worry about only getting 69quid a week. OR get a full time job and love what you can do with all the extra readies!

You sending out cv's & applications? A freind of mine thinks there are no jobs in Bristol, he's right as he only sends out *1* application a week. You need to send out tens of dozens to stand a chance.

Love it or not, 16 hours a week isnt going to get you anywhere.

Either consider looking at more areas if you are linitng yourself to one or two particular areas, or get signed up at a temp agency.

Lad just up the corridor from me came in as a temp to cover for staff leaving/illness etc. He went for an interview for the position he was covering, and now has a full time job around £14,000 pa :)
