I am considering a new monitor but want it to be future proof for a good while.

I am currently looking at : Benq XL2420T so around the £300 mark.

Is this my best option or is there anything else I should be looking at? will hopefully be buying around this time next month.

I have that monitor and its Amazing if you are in the market for a 120Hz monitor.

What will you be using the monitor for? As if its just general use and watching Movies then
you don't really need a 120Hz monitor, If its for FPS gaming then I would recommend it.

Sorry, should have said my uses.

It will be used mainly for FPS gaming but I am getting into Starcraft II a bit more now.

Then the general PC uses really.

Edit a photo or 2 now and again but nothing serious, so in short ... gaming is the main reason for the new monitor.

Then I would presonally say this is a brilliant monitor then m8 as I said in the previous
post I have the same one and I would not give it up now and the 120Hz really makes games
look good especially things like BF3, BlackOps & Medal Of Honor - Warfighter

going to be using 3D? As I understand it this isnt the best monitor for 3D with an amd card. nvidia no problem but not sure on the amd or whether thats all sorted now

Not planning on even trying the 3D tbh, tried it a few times at the cinema and I am not a fan, felt like my eyes weren't focusing right or something.

If your mainly using it for FPS gaming then its one of the most responsive, low latency panels around.

However personally I don't find it good for prolonged desktop useage or playing slower paced games the colors just aren't pleasing on the eye no matter how well calibrated unless you just like very bright overly vivid colors and it has a white/blue icey glare from the backlight that atleast for me is quite uncomfortable for looking into. (One thing that stands out quite a bit no matter how well you calibrate it the blue on these OcUK forums will have a slightly dull purple bias to them - pretty much every non LED monitor I've ever used no matter how rubbish manages to get the blues on these forums right).

Some more points - you will need to use either the DVI (with dual link) or DisplayPort connections to get 120Hz and if your using displayport its quite picky about cable quality (not unsual with DisplayPort) it doesn't come with a DisplayPort cable and if you buy one make sure its of reasonable quality and under 2m long ( the OcUK 1.8m ones are ideal ) as otherwise you will probably find it won't do above ~85Hz its also a bit picky about driver versions with the odd one from AMD and nVidia resulting in no display on the monitor over DisplayPort (but work fine from DVI). Latest driver versions from both at the time of posting work fine however.

Its a lovely monitor that looks good and is one of the best for fast paced games - so long as your computer is sufficient enough to run higher than 60Hz!

Sources: own experience.

I also have one and to be honest the colours are very very good for a tn panel. Oh i also have had an ips panel so i can comment about the colours before the ips fans try and shoot me down....!

Do you watch movies/play consoles on it, if so what's it like for them?

At the moment i am using my headphones in the monitor with the sound driven from the xbox hdmi lead. Normally i use 5.1 surround from the pc and xbox. The only downside of this monitor is that it doesnt have a 3.5mm input.

Howeve this is not a problem if you feed the sound to the monitor via hdmi from your xbox or pc.

Its good for console gaming, for movies you may want to setup the movie mode with AMA off.

The colors are very bright and vivid but to call them good depends what your comparing them to - they aren't even close to a good IPS panel for accuracy.

Well it'll be more gaming then movies. Seems like a good monitor, I will look further into it. Thanks for all the replies.

Its a very very good gaming monitor, tbh haven't watched that many movies on it as I have a projector and another monitor (with proper 8bit per pixel color rather than 6bit w/ FRC) thats far better for movies anyhow.

I think the image quality, etc. will be very subjective to taste and tolerance, I have a low tolerance for the color of ultrabright LEDs which the backlighting of this monitor very much has the characteristic of so prolonged viewing results in some degree of eye fatigue for me - others may be less bothered by it.
