BenQ XL2420T + Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition = 144Hz nightmare!

The graphics card's ram, you have to press the arrow next to the right of the core voltage box to see it. (in afterburner)

What is it set on at stock? 1.5v? try 1.55v, 1.60v, 1.65v if you really want to but I would not go past it (if I were you) good news is there seems to be quite a black hole of no real gains past like 1300Mhz on the 7900's ram.... so... if upping the volts helps, and you can get a stable 1300Mhz on it with a small voltage bump then you are cooking on gas really.

What drivers are you using?

This sounds like the same issue when I used the beta10 drivers, there were flickering on the screen then the monitors just had a solid colour and I had to reboot.

To get it working I had to roll back to beta6 drivers.
 
Think i'm on the newest ones.

Thing is though, it seems to be working fine now without any overclock on the card, but the second I do overclock even the smallest amount it all goes weird again.

I'm not overly bothered with having no overclock, just find it a bit strange that before using a 144Hz monitor I could overclock loads and now I can't even do 5MHz increase.

Maybe the card is just coming to the end of it's life or something, all very weird!
 
In that case [voltage locked] I would consider reducing the memory clock a little, 100 or something it might help with stability, even tho things seem fine. But still up the core clock :)

It would be interesting to know if reducing the memory clock a little would have solved the problem in the first place, if the card came slightly overclocked out of the box it could have been that it was never expecting the144ghz Spanish Inquisition.*

I'm having the same problem sort of, just got a ASUS 144hz 27" monitor.

Had 4 different occurances of this in the last 2 days, it recovered once but then did it 10 secs later.

Horizontal lines going across the screen, had to restart to fix it.

My Asus 24" 60hz screen works perfectly, so im thinking it's either the screen or the gfx card just doesn't like 120/144hz on desktop when it's downclocked.

I've only just got the screen so i'd be tempted to return it to save myself any messing about, but i'm loving the 144hz BF4 action lol.

My concern is if its gfx card related after reading this thread, i think my best bet would be to return the screen and hope it doesn't do it on my old monitor :(
 
Just installed the latest official drivers (non beta) and noticed something.

If i set it at:
144hz the idle clocks are 500 core / 1250 mem
120hz the idle clocks are 300 core / 150 mem
60hz the idle clocks are 300 core / 150 mem

Before i updated the driver im 99% certain the idle clocks for 144hz were 300/150

So my guess is the card needs to put out high frequency while idle to maintain 144hz on the monitor, i don't think it was doing it before i updated the driver hence the screen issues on desktop.
 
I must admit I am a bit of a n00b when it comes to all this core clock and idle clock stuff so most of this is going right over my head lol.

One thing I know for sure though is that when I have no form of overclocking on my card, everything works fine on 144Hz, the moment I tinker just a little with the high performance memory clock settings, it doesn't like it.

I'm really not sure what the problem is or why it's happening, but I am just going to leave my card as it is for now and buy a different one in a few months.
