God, monitors are so frustrating... So close, but just not there...

This would probably be the perfect monitor if not for 2560x1080 and no g/free-sync.

Oh, and the price.

Just so many compromises with any monitor available right now :(

Yep, give us the specs of the asus rog dominator, in 3440*1440 29", or perhaps the equivalent with 1600 vertical res, and then have dell manufacture it so it'll work first time and i wont be debating any more.

Having been at 1440p for over a year now, 1080p deeply offends me. At this price, without G-Sync or even Freesync... you're having a laugh.

It's not really 1080p as its normally known though? It's Ultrawide? I have a 29" Ultrawide and it's brilliant. I certainly wouldn't go back to a 1920 screen.

Still the same number of vertical pixels though.

It will have a slightly lower PPI than a 27" 1920x1080.

Your 29" UW is the same PPI as a 24" 1920x1080 and the difference is very noticeable (to me at least, I had to downsize from a 27" to a 23" because all I could see was a mess of pixels!)

Can't see it being worth near enough £700, if I was going to spend that much on a monitor I'd want at least 1440p

It's not exactly Gibbo's choice, it's pretty much how much they are everywhere.

You're paying for the 144Hz, and I've heard people saying that the trade off between 1440p and 1080p is worth it for the refresh rate.

I'd almost agree... if this were a 29" and ~£200 cheaper, but is an extra 33% width (and arguably lower IQ due to the larger pixels) really worth an extra £300 over the XL2420G (which has g-sync)?

I'm sure it must appeal to some, but personally I just can't see it at that spec/price level.

It's expensive for what it is, yes, but it's the first of its kind (Ultrawide with high refresh rate), I don't believe it's worth what it costs either. - But I guess they are trying to get that high refresh rate ultrawide premium before Acer release the X34/Whatever their FreeSync model is called.

My comment about the 1080p > 1440p trade off was in games, I recall hearing it in a YouTube review. From personal experience, I couldn't imagine using that size monitor @ 1080p for desk top use in all honesty... So I'm with you on that :)
