Bernie Ecclestone`s is nuts

If it's not all just a jape, this will make things worse.

What I hate about overtaking now is that you now have to wait a while to see if that overtake was allowed or he has to give it back.

JUST LET THEM DRIVE YOU IDIOTS!

This idea has been about forever.

Bernie isnt nuts. Hes using the "throw out a ridiculous idea to get people to start talking about actual solutions" tactic.

Max did it too. His £40m budget cap idea was seen as mental, but the result is 26 cars on the grid and all of them signed up to the new Concorde agreement and working to drastically reduce costs....

Bernie knows exactly what hes doing.

Well even so, if only 22 or so are there, thats still not bad considering 4 manufacturers have pulled out in 12 months. There was the potential to have only 12 cars...

Problem is Bernie and Max got what they wanted - a 2 tier Formula 1 (with one tier being basically one manufacturer) which I think for the top of track racing is complete ****

I knew it wouldnt happen but I have to say I like the idea of shortcuts for a few laps in a race per car (yes I can see some drivers trying to get away with more and hopefully getting penalised straight away)

Im SURE 26 wont turn up - I will be surprised if even 22 manage it to be honest.

The problem with F1 is its all in the maths. The races would just be the same shortcuts or not. The teams would work out the shortest way around the track against the current strategy and position and the fastest cars will benefit even more if they can take come clean air.

I think he is rather clever actually.

I reckon these crackpot ideas are just stunts to generate interest in the sport and get some publicity and he knows full well they won't go ahead and the teams would hate the idea. He's just an eccentric fool using controversy to get the sport in print.

I agree with everything except the fool bit. He is clearly eccentric but he is no fool.

The more interviews of him I've read (outside motorsport so he's not so defensive) the more I actually quite like him.

He clearly has too much power and too much money but I don't believe he is a fool.

He could come up with fanciful ideas or common sense ideas and you can bet one team wouldn't agree so nothing would happen.

Not that money is everything, the bloke is a billionaire. You can't call a billionaire stupid. He might throw some wild ideas at the sport but he knows that he is doing!

iits all about being in the right place at the right time

rights to F1 cost him comparative peanuts in the 70's and majority of his wealth has come after that
