just out of interest, is this a Frio/MSI product partnership or is this just an ocuk thing?

the reason i ask is because if it was an actual MSI/Frio thing they had going, you'd have thought they would have matched the colours a little better :p

Technically it is an MSI thing but they have done it exclusively for OcUK, agreed the fan could have been blue but at least you can change the fan :)

the prebuilt ultima prism is actually cheaper than buying the components separately

(i know ive posted this in the OcUK builds thread, but i thought it would be worth sharing in the deals section too)

I'm sorry but why on Earth would i buy it if it was more expensive? I thought the idea behind the pre-build systems was they were cheaper than buying all the components separately. Am I missing something?

^^^ The reason i asked was because the way it he wrote it. I sounded like it was a bonus that the system was cheaper. The ONLY reason i would consider buying this if it was indeed cheaper than picking my own parts. And 400 quid off is a heck of a deal imo

I'm sorry but you thought wrong, usually the systems are MORE expensive then buying the parts separately. yes you get the odd occassion such as when the pre-built system is on a offer such as here that it's cheaper then buying the parts.

the reason the prebuilt ones are normally more expensive is because someone at overclocker has to spend time building it, overclocking it and testing it. your paying for that service as well as the parts, and an entire system warranty for one year.

this is why i was shocked that it was cheaper than buying separately and building yourself

Yes you are.

The extra charge on top of the components, is to pay for the technicians time they spend, building, overclocking, configurating and quality controlling your system. It also pays ffor the 12 months of phone/webnote support and warranty.

These items above unfortunately are not free.

Would you expect a car to be expensive built or just in bits?

Allow me to disagree with you.
You build a system so you can sell more components at once thus making more profit. This "time spent building" is just a bad excuse in my eyes. When you go to the shop and buy a suit for example you do not expect to pay extra because someone matched it do you? When you buy a case of beer, you do not expect to pay more because it comes in a package. To use your car example: When you buy a car do you pay premium because someone spent time to build it and quality control it? Surely not. If you decide to buy all the parts a car has and build it yourself you would pay significantly more...
This is just my opinion.

It isn't a discount bundle, it is a pre-built system.

We do not sell them as discounted bundles or even wish to.

We offer the products and service (building etc) as one price.

This maybe your opinion but your opinion is wrong. Businesses do not do things for free unfortunately. If the case was otherwise, then it wouldn't be business.

I hope this helps.

Are you trying to say that when you buy a car, they haven't factored in the cost of manufacturing/putting together that car on top of what they paid for the parts? Cos I think you may have a strange idea of how a business costs its products if you do....

Missing the point any company like OCuk with prebuild systems will be more expesnive as they have to pay for the time and care taken, also the AFTER sales support.

But you do pay extra for a tailored suit or a hand built car, products made by experts to squeeze that little bit extra from the same components and provide maximum quality. Thats what OcUK do. Their cable tidying and overclocking alone make their systems worth that little extra premium, let alone the careful selection of components and after sales service.

I am seriously tempted by this, alas, I would not have the monies until the new year :(

I posted in the new forums and asked if there was a particular reason that £400 was being shaved off? The components don't look old hat to me... just wondering. Also, would the overclock be easy to raise or would the 16GB of RAM no allow it :)
