what the title says really.

basically im trying to cut down on system noise. I have a pwm controllable system fan header so i might as well make use of it for the intake fan. I see the asaka apaches are PWM and they seem to get mentioned a lot.

suggestions?

ok, cheers fellas, ill go read up on the vipers. Seem to be quite pricey at OCUK compared to other places...

whilst ive got this thread open, whats the best 92mm 3pin fan i can get? Will be sticking on a windowed side panel and would like it to fit in with the colour scheme (black/yellow/copper/couple of white LEDs)

don't worry, I failed in spectacular terms earlier this morning, which Thingemagib caught me on.

hehe :D

i love sending people on wild goose chases

i like what im seeing from the vipers and i think ill get me one of those. As for the 92mm, the fractal design from OCUK looks like a contender but looks like the airflow is a bit pants. Might shelve that one for a while...

i've got the apache which are the older model to the vipers they are very quite but the vipers are almost 10 db's louder for an extra 400Rpm then do shirt some air tho. And because of the s-flow blade you don't get really bad dead spots in the fan centres like you do with other makes of fan for similar prices

ok, well whatever i get, im not gonna be running them at full whack. judging by the cpu fan (110mm) and rear fan (120mm) which im currently happy with noise/airflow wise, im looking at about 1200-1300rpm. basically im looking for something with a bit more oomph at lower speeds

I dont think dead spots really matter, i gotta pic from inside the case facing the intake fan - ive placed one of the hard drives there because of the dead spot, and thats not likely to move:

think i need to do a dust purge sometime soon...

like my homemade potentiometer/fan controller sitting up top?

With the vipers they are quite loud on CPU load but the apaches are much quieter.

If noise is your main concern then I would go for the apache as they are reasonably quiet even at full load..

I have used both and it just looks like the viper is the same fan as the apache but has a higher max RPM so can spin faster.

Otherwise I think they have the same performance at same RPM.

The Vipers are horrendously loud.

The Akasa Apache would get my vote :)
I agree about the apache and im not sure why ppl keep recommended the Viper

They are one of the loudest 120mm fans ive used and are far from super silent as they are advertised.

I have one in my case now as i have just installed a Prolimatech Megahalems and i did have a akasa apache but i wanted better temps.

I then installed a viper and i got a few degress knocked off but the noise of these vipers are ridiculous.

At the moment i have set the Viper to PWM which has sorted the noise out a little and temps have only increased 3-4C.

I dont get why these fans get continuously rated,as the noise of these just outways the Viper decent airflow benefits.

I will no doubt be putting the apache back in tomorrow
