Looking at the Samsung F1, is it any good? All the others in that price range are seagates (bad experiences) or the WD green editions which I presume power down all the time to save energy?

If it's just for storage I'd suggest another few quid on the 1.5TB Samsung F2 otherwise the 1TB one. If you want quick the 1TB F1, the F2 and Green are 5400rpm.

Had a samsung for a while now and never had any problems, if its just for storage you won't notice much in terms of any speed issues so just get the cheapest from a brand you trust.

Any reasons for this? :)

Speed ,power ,noise,heat,

I have 3TB WD greens in my HTPC and they are the best drives I have used.

Can't here them even when copying massive files.

They are cool to the touch keeping my case temps down

They are fast and have low power requirements.:)
