Hi All,

I am looking at get a set of speakers for my pc, i am looking for a 2:1 set with the best sound quality.

My budget is no more than £200, Can anybody recommend a good 1 or tell me what the best set is for this budget.

I want them to play games like ghost recon and call of duty on.

Thanks

I think most people on here will tell you not to spend £200 on pc speakers but to spend it on some bookshelf speakers.

I'd tell you that aswell, but since I don't know anything about this stuff I'll let someone else reccomend you something.

Acoustic Energy Aego M's are good but they're around £100 last time I checked, once you pass that level you're better off going down the seperates road imo.

Wow OCUK want £150 for them, don't think I'd want them for that much.

I went for bookshelfs when looking for new speakers; Edifier RT1600. Decided to replace my 2.1's with these and haven't looked back!

Obviously these are massively below your budget, but what are you going to be running them through, onboard sound or dedicated?

£150 for the Aego's? They used to cost less than £100 at one point. They only have a 1 year warranty, and a few people have had some issues with them. They are very good, but they are certainly not worth that IMO.

Corsair SP2500's are another option. Whether they are worth £180, is debatable. Some think they are, some don't.

While I agree with £200 at most to spend, bookshelf speakers and an amp is the better option, you guys are forgetting that the OP wants them for gaming. Stereo speakers are a much better choice when music is the main use. I've recommended an amp and bookshelf speakers to others before, only for them to be disappointed with the lack of bass. A lot of gamers are looking for plenty of weight to explosions, etc. You're just not going to get that with bookshelf speakers unless they are large. Even then, they won't match a subwoofer.

While decent bookshelf speakers will provide a better quality of bass, when compared to most PC 2.1 speakers, it seems many gamers are looking for quantity not quality. To get quality and quantity, that would cost considerably more than the OP has to spend.

If it was just for bass heavy gaming use I wouldn't be spending anywhere near £200 on a 2.1 set-up. The bass is pretty decent on mine when I turn it up, but then again they're currently in a fairly small room.

i have some Logitech x240s and i love em, way under your budget but i would have a look at logitech, great brand. ive had these for years and they still work great.

Thanks for all the advise. I really want the best speakers that make the explosions etc sound the best, it is not for music at all. I think the £180 for the corsairs are expensive. I have read mixed reviews and do not want to risk it incase im disappointed.

I dont really want the big stero speakers unless i have to, i want some smaller ones to fit on my desk and maybe a small sub like a gamecube size if possible.

Are the Acoustic Energy Aego M's the best bet if i can get them around the £100 mark?

There are lots of good 2.1 systems for the £100 mark

Harmon Kardon Soundsticks (good design supposed to be professional sound)
Logitech Z623 £99 elsewhere (good if you want LOUD)
Antec Soundscience (divisive looks, gets good reviews)

etc

I have some Logitech Z623's, and apart from the occasional blast to remove the dust from behind the power button, they're brilliant. Lots of bass, which can be adjusted on the main speaker, to have none - full, and can have up to 3 devices into them! One 3.5mm through the main speaker, one 3.5mm through the sub, and an RCA in the sub.

Not sure where to find them now though, I got mine from OcUK quite a bit ago :)

Get some powered monitor speakers they are much better for £200.. Or maybe just some logitech 2.1 if you want a simple setup.

Get a cheap amp and bookshelf speakers, if you get pc speakers youll only end up upgrading them to these later.

But if you have to im a fan of the Logitech Z-2300

(which i upgraded to bookshelfs)

see all the people suggesting logitech 2.1 :P

Well frankly they are not amazing but for convenience and simplicity they are a good choice for people who do not have much experience of audio equipment... Buying powered monitors and hifi seperates is a minefield. Powered monitors or a dac/amp + speakers is better but it is also a slippery slope lol.

after reading many reviews on these speakers and reading positive reviews all over the place i bought a pair of edifiers and am over the moon now im in the market of replacing on board sound for dedicated sound card anyone have any suggestions upto about £100

To bad they dont make the Razer Mako speakers anymore.. While a few of the sound options Razer has offered has been dodgy the Mako speakers is brilliant in every way when connected to a proper sound card and positioned right.

As for sound card i can recommend any asus xonar. I have the Xonar Essence stx and have been VERY happy with it. Before that i used a Creative Fatility Titanium Pro and while the hardware was pretty good the drivers were a horrorshow. Should you decide to go with a Asus Xonar sound card i would recommend the 1.54 drivers found here

Good call, take a look at some DACs? The next thing on my list.

This. A discrete amp and passively driven bookshelves will be the best, most future proof setup.

Otherwise the HK Soundsticks are a compact, aesthetic 2.1 solution with fantastic sound for the price, including sheer volume and bass quantity.
