I've decided to get an X-Fi card and might as well do it justice by getting some good speakers, any recomendations?

No they're speakers.
£200 should be enough to get a pair of studio active monitors. You don't need the subwoofer, a good pair of standmounts will provide plenty of bass for computer use.

Good subwoofers start at £400 alone.

£200 won't get you a good pair of studio monitors, and why you'd want them I don't know.

Studio monitors are designed to have a completely linear response, which is great for audio production, but means it has no individual tone. If you want to play games and listen to music you're better off with speakers for the purpose.

No idea how good those Audioengine digital speakers are, but the Aego Ms get rave reviews including a What Hi-fi 5 star award (ok I know that doesn't mean a great deal but still..).

Got a pair of the AE Aego M's myself the other week, couldn't be more pleased. Great for music and games alike :)

AE for the win . excellent set of 2.1 speakers . they go bloddy loud to . i dont think you can get anything better without spending £400 . and i'm talking in terms of pc speakers not hi'fi speakers ( as my 6 year old mission 780se kick there arse ).

As an alternative idea what about the apple ipod hifi. It takes a phono or optical input from say your pc, can also be used with ipod/mp3 if you have one. Also its portable so can be used in garden or moved from room to room.It also looks quite sexy. Can be had for £200.
The spec on it is pretty reasonable, it does in fact sound pretty good.

Alternatively buy a amp and a set of HiFi speakers.

my view too. i spent £200 on my logi z5500's and my hi-fi connected to my modded emu soundcard simply destroys them. Try second hi-fi separates, a £100 amp like an arcam alpha 7, delta 290, a NAD amp may be on the tables too, or a CA amp. Then spend the other £100 on a pair of bookshelf speakers (2nd hand) like some MA b2's, or some mordaunt shorts.

£200 is a waste for pc speakers, and those (see below) look like absolute crap. An integrated amp in speakers in is never a good.

You really should spend that amount of money on a decent setup !!! :D

yeah but the AE setup is brilliant for its size. i might just bung them in my bedroom for a late night portable dvd session now and again.

No look at Meridian, they have active speakers and apparently superb. Active speakers can be tailed to match perfectly. Although I personally prefer passive as purchased best quality amplifiers I can, that lasts for several speaker upgrades- also if a amplifier fails I can easily swop it out, with active when you sell the speakers it means spending money on amplifiers/active speakers again.
