Best 24" Monitor

Why?

The market for them is still small at the moment due to the extra expensive of other hardware required and of the cost of the monitors themselves.

Mainly because of the higher refresh rate, less ocular strain, gamers tend to play games many hours per day. Lower input lag helps in a lot of games too and have the choice of the 3D feature which is not very significant but is a plus.

Im a gaming gamer and im about as interested in 3d monitors as i am 3d films, ie couldn't give a rats arse tis just a gimmick. You want a low response time, 1920x1080 resolution and the right connectors for a budget monitor and if your gonna spend a bucket load you want "IPS" for better picture quality tho imo not worth the money for a purley gaming monitor (if graphic design was your trade maybe is worth it).

You cant go wrong with the 24" Liyama Prolights ranging between £150-£170 imo.

I don't care so much about grammar. Just I have a thing for monitor names, obviously. ;)

Hoping you don't pay to much attention to my posts then :P i have the spelling skills of a brain damaged wombat, hell if it wasn't for the spell checker on your forum i doubt anyone could understand me!

That's ok. At least you don't publish monitor reviews with thousands of readers and refer to the 'blinding glare from the dessert'. A truly delicious prospect. ;)

lol, since your "in the know" then perhaps you can help me, these new Hansg 25" have any thoughts on that? My brother has the 27.5" and it seems pretty darn nice to me but ive seen a lot of folks on these forums dissing the hansg and this new 25" which is making me waver, gaming is my thang.

Most of the people who diss em are the "Gotta be IPS" crowd and tbh ill sooner cut of my left ball than pay £400 for a monitor with 8ms.

Well you'll be pleased to know I have a fairly balanced opinion and sway both ways. I would say, however, that you can safely ignore the grey to grey response times as in reality they mean very little indeed. But it is also safe to say that even the most responsive IPS monitors can't compete with the most responsive TN panels - that's why they don't 'bother' making 120Hz IPS screens. Now as I haven't used any Hanns.G monitor I can't put my heart and soul into recommending them but I would say based on my research that they offer quite exceptional value at the moment. Because this whole 'which monitor is good' thing is very subjective it's great that you've seen your brother's Hanns.G first hand. I think that the 25 inch model is a very similar panel, but obviously smaller and with a slightly lower resolution. Given this I would say that if you are happy with the gaming performance of your brother's Hanns.G then the 25" one would be a good buy for you.

Sounds good, the resolution doesn't bother me to much i actually prefer 1920x1080 for the nice cinematic wide screen look :P. Ta, think i will get the hansg and use money saved on my GPU.

If gaming is your priority then you are absolutely right, TN all the way. But if you want real world use as a graphical display TN panels just don't cut it, for things like colour accurate image editing.

Yeh id agree with that Stag, for purely gaming nothing wrong with a normal TN and i understand professional graphic designer types wanting something a bit more.

Everything is a compromise one way or t'other until OLED monitors come out. I'm hoping to review an OLED screen in the near future so do stay tuned for that :).
