Im looking for a new SATAII 16MB Cache hard drive, it has to be 250gb and quiet, currently i've got a Seagate 7200.10 250GB 16mb Cache drive.

Some say that are mean't to be quiet, but mine at times can be quite noisy.

I think people referred these seagates of having two types of motors inside them, I have a pink coloured one.

Your opinions please.

I'm in the same situation as you as I don't need the extra capacity, I just want the extra speed that the higher density platters gives.

I've been looking at the 7200.10s like you but was put off by the risk of getting a noisy one. So after having a look around I've found that it's possible to get a T series Samsung Spinpoint with 250GB and 16MB cache. They can be had for less than £50, but you'll have to source them from else where as unfortunately OcUK only stock the 320GB, 400GB and 500GB version.

I've got a couple of old 80GB Spinpoints and I can confirm that they're very quiet. The new T series Spinpoints as also highly recommended for those wanting a quiet drive.
