7900GT/X Questions

I am considering selling my 7800GT and getting a 7900GT. It would cost me very little to upgrade, and it seems to have a significant gain.

So I was wondering, assuming that I will auto-overclock with Coolbits, which 7900GT would you guys recommend as the one with the best "bang per buck"?

Also, would 7900GT in SLI be better than a single 7900GTX 512MB?

Finally, would my CPU bottleneck any of these options?

Just get the cheapest card.

They seem to all overclock the same.

yes...7900GT SLI is faster than xfire x1900 and a single 7900 GTX

If buying from OcUK definitely have a look at the below card, bit quicker than the 7900GT, & cheaper too. :D

Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO)
Available This Week Only for just £199.69*Including VAT

So in theory budget ones such as the OCUK branden one have as good a chance of getting a high overclock as the expensive ones?

yeah basically they are the same PCB with modified pre clocked bios's.

All the people with the stock GT's have been reaching the same as the pre OC ones.

just look here

for more info

I'd agree with easyrider, the cheaper 7900's should clock just as well as the pre-overclocked versions.

I see no 7900GT's for less than £199.69 inc. VAT anywhere

If you have a 7800GT then either card is a good upgrade, Nvidia card will run cooler but they are quite noisy due to the small fan, no more so than the X1800XT when it's in 3D mode mind.

EDIT - Went for the X1900XT after seeing it in the week only special here.

Can anyody tell me if this one:

PowerColor ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-060-PC)

...will be less overclockable than this one:

Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 XT-X 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (3055) (GX-046-CO)

After I discover the answer I will place my order. :)

I have bought a 7900 GT for exactly £199.00 inc VAT and Delivery!... (its the XFX version) you are obviously not looking hard enough. (not that they have any in stock anymore either) and i can't find anywhere else that can even come close...

Because of free delivery from this site, that makes it significantly cheaper than the x1800xt 256mb from overclockers..

Though, the x1800xt is still a good buy at that price

Just found and ordered that 7900GT for £199.00 delivered.

What an amazing deal! :D

Now to buy a new PSU cos I don't think my old 330w is gonna cut the mustard.

The X1900 cards generally overclock well.

The 1900 XTX cards are said to be cherry picked.
The 1900 XT will likely clock to XTX speeds, but the XTX can obviously be clocked even higher.

As they offer 7900GTX performance, either will be a great buy at the current price.
