Greetings.

So I have changed to a shiny new LLU service as of Friday, so have been freed of the oppressive shackles of BT Wholesale.

However, after checking what chipset is in their DSLAM, it is Broadcom, and my current modem is Texas Instruments AR7.

So I've been looking into getting a Broadcom modem, as this should eek out the maximum performance of my line.

The D-Link 320B seems to be the best I've found so far, but this doesn't seem great, but there seems to be a pretty limited selection.

So if anyone has any input, that'd be appreciated, stand alone modems only, please :D

As above, the Netgear DG834GT, DG834PN and DG834v4 all have Broadcom chipsets. They're not great routers so you're best using them as a modem connected to a better router such as the Dlink DIR615.

Thanks for the input, but these are all modem/router combos :p

I must surely be able to get a better modem with a stand alone? or at least the same sort of spec for 30-50% less than a modem/router combo, from the ones I've looked into.

It'll be hooked up to an E4200, so I really just want the best modem I can get, and don't want to pay for redundant routing hardware with a combo.

You'll rarely find standalone modems these days. Buy a cheap DG834GT from eBay, flash it with DGTeam f/w and connect it in tandem with your router. Job done.
