im currently using a vantec mach 1 which you can see here

http://www.overclockers.com/articles1231/

it cost £17 and keeps my venice 3000 @2.5Ghz around 45oC under load. im looking to clock my opty 146 to 2.85Ghz and am thinking im probably going to need a better cooler. what do you think and what do you suggest ?

also what are the acceptable load temps for an opty 146 ?

the freezer 64 pro is about the best you can get @ ~£17.

temps <~57c ideally. less if your clocking it far. My 148 @3ghz loads @ 48c/3ghz using a scythe ninja. £31 so out of your budget, but its so good and so quiet:)

well im not adverse to paying more if it will DEFINATLY get me good results, ive just had a lot of bad luck with coolers in the past, always end up sending ££ on a supposedly good cooler just to find its either bloody noisy or crap at cooling. i had a coolermaster extreme once upon a time, the thing came with an 80mm delta screamer. 80 decibles!!!

well for the price they are the only two you really need to concider. the freezer is dirt cheap and an excellent performer. the only drawback is that, at least compared to the scythe with its 120mm fan, it isn't exactly silent. If you can put up weith that, then its perfect for you:) i love the scythe because it really is that quiet, even with the fan @ 12v.

any thoughts on the Zalman CNPS7700-CU 12cm Silent CPU Heatsink ? its still a little over my budget but more affordable to me than the scyth.

your running an A3000+ venice at 2.5Ghz and you need 1.55volts ?! mines doing 2.45Ghz with stock voltage... you might want to drop it a little, could get you even better temps.

No a 3200+ venice, and no I cant drop it any more. It has been running like this for ages and isnt stable any lower, I got a crap clocker.
