Hi All,

Trying my very hardest to be and stay legal with tv/movies but I don't want faff, I do want decent quality and a wide choice. I want spotify for TV rather than music!

I have tried a NowTV box and was pleased with the deal for the price, but no netflix, and not all free catch up services.

Moved on to AppleTV (played with one I was testing for work) and was pleased with the increased picture quality on NowTV and Netflix looked good and I love the interface and remote but nothing other than netflix or nowTV that's of any use.

It irks me that the easiest and most comprehensive solution I can think of is a Laptop connected by HDMI and getting everything from TPB! In contrast I haven't used TPB for music for years because Spotify is so easy and convenient to use that there's no point.

So After my rant, can anyone suggest a solution for the following:

Must have at least netflix, amazon prime, now tv, iplayer, itv player, 4od, 5 on demand

Would be nice to have any other decent up and coming services

must be 1080p, would be nice to have optical audio out

Any help appreciated!

The Amazon Play TV shold fit all those needs, although I'm not totally sure about ITV, 4 and 5 as I don't use them. It's probably the best on the market by a long shot at the moment.

I'm hoping that Apple will add features to the Apple TV once they start losing out to Amazon. I must say, I'm very impressed with my ATV, and with airplay I can get most of the features that you describe.

Do you have a tablet? All those apps work with Chromecast, so that would be your cheapest option.

Amazon Play TV is also a good shout, I think it will do most of what you are asking. But if you want future proof (4k capabilities etc.) you need the latest ARM chip technology with HEVC / H.265 coding. I went with the Minix Neo X6 as it's £60.

Does everything you want and more as it comes with XBMC installed too. Then you can simply download apps you want from the play store.

Does this box work with NowTV, Netflix and Amazon Lovefilm etc ?

I wouldn't bet on anything being added to ATV. It's essentially mothballed, it doesn't even support spotify.

:( I was hoping that ATV would solve many problems with one box. I use it for spotify and other things via airplay. I guess if it's the primary media source it's not much good then. We seem to be living in annoying times during the mainstream transition to streaming media. There aren't really any products that seem to do everything.

Does Amazon Fire TV support DLNA? Could possibly finally get rid of my PS3, Chromecast, and Gramofon...
