I decorated basically half of my house in johnstones aqua 2 years ago, whole reason of going for this was to avoid the yellowing of oil based paints. Unfortunately since then I know more about johnstones and it does yellow.

I purchased bedec aqua advanced and this is so perfectly brilliant white, also has a really nice sheen. The application I find to be an absolute pig though, I'm no stranger to decorating and I'm using worster brushes, the finish is terrible in comparison to johnstones. Brush strokes everywhere and the stuff is so thick and dries so fast that your brush drags.

I've heard good things about dulux quick dry gloss, but open to any others I could try.

Doing all mine with Once Satinwood Pure Brilliant White. Can't fault it so far. Took 2 coats to completely cover the dark red skirts and picture rails I've just done but that's hardly surprising :o On the white /off white stuff it's been a breeze

Isn't that oil based?

Acrylic based Satin Gloss, Homebase own brand is very good. My whole house was done with it when we renovated 3 years on and its still white as the day it was put on.

Needs three or four coats to make it look good, but I expect that from any cheap gloss, £15 for 2.5ltr and I had the wife do it before it was installed on all the wood work made life easier.

That would be Johnstones Aqua Water based gloss which is actually a hybrid paint and therefore still yellows. I wish I had known too!

Yup, I thought it was completely water based and at the time had rave reviews online.

Johnstones Trade Water Based Satin + Water Based Undercoat

The guy in the shop upsold me the undercoat but I'm very pleased with the outcome. When I had my carpet fitted the fitter asked who painted them as he said the finish was incredible (I did :D) and it was very durable. When he is pushing the carpet down with his tool quite often it scrapes the skirting board but he was very impressed with this paint.

2 coats, i found it goes a long way. trade paint direct has it similar price to aqua advance.
i had my sash windows exteriors done 2 yrs ago and still looking great.
not used aqua advance so cant comment on that.

Tried again with the bedec advance.

Found that if I lay it on a bit thicker the brush strokes aren't there on 2nd coat, only problem is it then created a fair few runs over 20 minutes and I had to go round and tidy them up a bit.

I guess you could get a nice finish if you did 3 thin coats, but as it is I don't have that much time when it comes to doing my living room (I'm currently just tidying up my landing as it has all gone yellow).

Anyone heard anything about mythic paints?

In that case I would recommend getting some better paint brushes spending at least a fiver each on finishing brushes can make a huge difference.

I'm using wooster brushes, paid around £30 for the set of 4

Good shout, you shouldn't be loading the brushes to improve the look, it should settle as it drys, is it new wood or old well worked?

Previously oil based, very old wood (probably had a fair few coats before we moved in). It had been sanded thoroughly beforehand. After much research, I am going to give Dulux ecosure a try.
