Best alternative to Itunes for ipod?

Just did my annual re-install of windows and want to ditch iTunes as it is a hog. Any good alternatives to iTunes that will allow me to sync mp3s with my iPod?

Winamp or Foobar2000 should do the trick nicely

Yeah the latest version of winamp works fine. Been using it for a while myself, does the job better then itunes imo.

Winamp does the job. I used to use the ml_ipod plugin but that is now quite well implemented natively in Winamp.

Define "Hog"?
Surely you only run the application when you want to syncronise your iPod, so the fact it uses up some system resources while it takes a few minutes to sync isn't really a problem?

I think iTunes runs some background services. I know that the PCs at Uni have iPodservice.exe running on them. No flipping idea why mind!

Just disable the things you don't want running - easy peasy.
I use Anapod.

itunes installs quicktime which i don't want it is a hog.

Never new I could sync with winamp, will have to try.

Now how do I recover my library from my ipod back onto my clean machine?

Yeah there is that. Apple really ought to make seperate downloads for iTunes and Quicktime.

I used to be able to unpack the iTunes installer, delete the Quicktime file and then run the installer with the iTunes.exe. All that happened was that the setup process moaned that it couldn't find Quicktime and carried on.

Tried it on a more recent version of iTunes and Apple have closed this loophole.
