Best AMD cpu

Hi all, a little advice.

I managed to kill my hex core phenom II awhile ago when attempting to put a new cooler on it (top tip, don't loose your temper and press harder, ended up bending one (just one!) pin and killed it). I got a cheap duel core Athlon II and OC'ed it to keep me going and it's been fine, but want to get up to decent power again.

So long story short, what's the best AMD CPU to buy right now? I know bulldozer was a flop, so am I better off waiting for the next offering and keeping what I've got or should I get another phenom II (probably not a 6x) since the next chip will be just as bad as bulldozer? Mainly wanted for gaming and being able to run a number of programs at once.

Thanks,

I'd say a second hand x6, probably a BE like the 1090T or 1100T, or perhaps a 965 BE. How do you know the next chips will be bad? Anything is speculation until the chips are on the table ;)

Did the pin snap off? I've rescued a few AMD CPUs from bent pins, using a Stanley blade to straighten them up row by row in both horizontal and vertical directions

Nope, it's still on (as far as I can tell, there are a lot of the buggers!) I used a pin to straighten them, I might have another go when I have the time and patience. Thanks for the reply!

No probs, if you are going to bin the CPU at any stage drop me a mail, I'll take it off ya for postage. Assuming you don't snap the pin off :D Really, a stanley blade and a steady hand will have it straight in no time

This happened to me a few months ago changing to an H80 cooler the cpu stuck to the cooler and it slipped out of my hand and smacked on my mobo..... i bent about 15/20 pins!

I also used a knife to straighten them... it worked a treat. I felt a bit sick tho as it could have been an expensive mistake

^^ was asked to `take a look` at a friends pc which didnt start - it seem he didnt open the socket when he pushed the cpu in and bent a lot of pins on his lovely 1100T - 20 mins with a knife blade and straight pins - all working

I would certainly have a go at straightening them pins, the chance of success is reasonable. (as long as you manage that temper :p)

Fixed, literally spent two mins just running a knife blade down each row vertically and horizontally and is now working a treat. I knew there was a reason I loved these forums.
Now to attempt to sort out my OC again...

THANKS GUYS!
