best amd for gaming?

ok so the i5 cpu would i as a very novice user notice a difference compared to the amd?

I would take a stab and say yes, I imagine it depends a lot on your software, in terms of your video editing. If the software supports multithreading then the difference will likely be lower. One thing to consider there is that most graphic/video editing software can utilise your GPU too, something you should look into :)

Looking at the game scores on that benchmark the intel clearly has the lead there.
 
well i must say i appreciate all of your input...


i have looked at various articals/right ups about both cpu's and i think i would like to go with the i5...

however heres my catch..... I would like to upgrade to win8 at the same time.. is my 300 quid budget blown out the water in needing cpu, motherboard and win8??

I have seen cheaper motherboards than the one mentioned above however i have no idea what is required to suit..

Is there any point buying an i5 when he's only packing a GTX660?

For £300, he could buy a FX-8, one of the better 970 motherboards, and have enough change left over to buy a 2nd hand R9 280x (or a new r9 280 non-x). That's a way better rig for gaming.

Yes. Because graphics cards are the most frequently upgraded component in any gamers system, and Piledriver is... Well... Piledriver.

Though the GPU upgrade idea does make sense.

For £300 he could get a locked i5, a cheap H81 board, and have the same amount left over.
