Best AMD processor for gaming?

8350 and oc it to say 5ghz go for any game.

Oh dear
5Ghz is not a given.
Hope no one buys one thinking that they can game at 5Ghz

I suppose the inevitable CTD's can be blamed on the software devs and the weekly installs of the OS is MS fault.

i personally would either go intel or wait a year then do full upgrade

I have a Core i5 myself, and going "Intel" for the games he is playing,I am uncertain about,as they are multi-threaded(his setup should be not far off in this case) and he is using a single card. Moreover, he seems to not really want to overclock anyway.

He will be spending more than he needs to.

I have a 1100T at the moment. I don't mind overclocking but I've never done it before so I'm a bit hesitant. I really just want a processor that will help run Planetside 2 a bit more. It runs pretty well at the moment but there are times when it has a couple of seconds stutter. This happens mostly when there is a sudden appearance of loads of explosions. The fps briefly drops.

I would really try overclocking the CPU a bit. I know you are a bit unsure about overclocking, but as you have a very good motherboard,I would give it a try. It will cost you less than a CPU upgrade.

What heatsink do you have now??

Moreover,do have an SSD in the system?? Have you noticed any heavy HDD usage during those brief periods??

Edit!!

Another thing,is that as this is a free MMO,you cannot rule out issues on their side either. I remember even with something as untaxing as D3,the stuttering issue was down to the servers and that is not a free game.

PS2 lags no matter what you do in big battles. I can get it to run acceptably on my PII x4 @ 3.7 with an OC 6850, 1080p. 8GB of RAM helps too, so I'd recommend putting that on your list. I know people with OC i7s still struggle.

When a person asks the question "what is the best AMD processor for gaming?" why do people say "don't go for AMD go for Intel" i think if this person wanted an Intel Processor he would have asked for it :P

Because people don't always know all the options and compare it in perspective?

And where in thread did anyone said "don't go AMD"? The only thing I see is that people are pointing out that going from a Phenom II X6 the PD isn't much of an upgrade.

I think the reason that everyone is saying Intel is a better choice due to putting the motherboard cost aside (if both have to be bought on the AMD or Intel platform and cost around the same), comparing the purely CPU price AMD's £125/£150 vs i5 3570K £175, the i5 3570K offer much better and consistance gaming performance for as little as £20-£50 more...

i have had two phenom rigs (still have one now ) and i also recently just upgraded to a i5 3570k from a 955

basically it cost 180 after selling the ram mobo and the 955 and heatsink

now i could have probably got a 8350 but it would have been litterally the same cost for slower speed in 99 percent of everything its not really as case which amd its why amd ?

the phenom 2 cpus are still very good and in some games i dont notice the difference much and you know im a hardcore gamer so i probably notice a few more things than others who only play couple of hrs or only a bit.

in other games though the fps difference is vast and upto double. so depending on the game really. so as i said at this current time i would either keep your current cpu as still fast or swop the lot and sell current stuff to offset some of the cost. 8350 is a choice buit not really a great one overall .

simple reason to pick the intel is not biased its just common sense. i wish amd did have a better answer but they just dont .

It is easier for people instead of actually bothering to read what someone is using a computer for, just give an auto answer instead. They can end up wasting the money of other people, even if simply tweaking their own setup would probably help,or even if the issue is not the setup.

I know plenty of gamers myself. I am on a Core i5 myself but I also know people with AMD rigs too,and for a number of games there is no real difference. Listen to some people on this forum, and you would think otherwise.

tbh if he doesnt game a lot there is nothing wrong with what he has its still a fast cpu . there is no justify in it a lot do tell the truth

i prefer amd as a company . are they the best for gaming = no but they re decent value for money at lower end.

i have a black quad core phenom 2 rig at side of my i5 rig :p

at end of day no one person can decide but yourself whether you think its worth upgrading or not. i can tell you this there wont be anything to trouble your current cpu for 1-2 years yet.

so no need to panic just play.
