After hearing my incredibly irritating alarm sound yet again on my mobile phone, I was thinking about setting my computer as an alarm, playing a specific mp3 to lift me from the world of sleep in the mornings.

This got me considering some options, and of course some humourously inappropriate examples as well. Another amusing idea I had would be to create a random playlist of some selected tracks, and then play alarm track 'russian roulette' every morning...

I could experience the blissful tones of say, Sigur Rós's Untitled 4, or the appropriately titled No Ordinary Morning by Chicane. At the same time I could face waking to something like Napalm Death's Silence is Deafening.

I would be interested to hear people's suggestions, both for great songs to arise to, and particularily bad ones. :D

Id imagine waking up to any kind of death metal to be quite horrible, on the other hand if you're well into that kinda of music you would probably start head banging straight away :D

So on that subject, I recommend, 'Through The Eyes Of The Dead - Failure In The Flesh' as a song you wouldn't want to wake up to, I wouldn't mind though.

I wake up to Axwell - I Found U, but I hate waking up to alarms, so usually every song I put as my waking up tone I begin to hate, annoyingly I really hate:

Guns N Roses - Welcome to the Jungle (the intro mainly)

my alarm tone on my phone is actually some old school thrash metal :D does wake you up nicely. i'd say some hardcore trance ***** would be horrible to wake up to

Best: Jimi Hendrix - All along the watchtower, if I hear "ring ring" when I'm on call and it's 4am the phone gets launched :D
Worst: There are many artists that would fit in my worst category, highest on the list would probably be the Scissor Sisters.

Having the same song wake you up everyday will get annoying.

I have Classic FM set on my alarm radio. Classical music kind of lulls you awake. Often I'll simply find my self awake without having realised it.

You need a chillout song with a hint of rock to wake up to. I'd go with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's Salvation or the classic Sunday Morning Call by Oasis.

I used to wake up to Get Free by The Vines, brilliant intro and always made me wake up pretty energized. As for worst, any pop song. Im going to go with Black Eyed Peas.

Bat Out of Hell by Meatloaf (On Loud). It'll definately wake you up if it doesn't kill you from a heart attack first.

Bolero by Ravel. This will slowly wake you up.

Used to wake up to this but since I've moved back to the South I can no longer get it.

I have Kashmir as my ring tone. When I'm on-call it makes me up pretty much instantly, even at 4am. Can't say it's pleasant - but it is effective.
