Best Android tablet out there??

I am thinking of picking up a tablet for general browsing, viewing photos, watching videos etc and I wondered what the generally regarded "best" tablet is out there?

I have an Android phone so I don't want Apple or Blackberry and I'd consider anything from 7" to 10".

Not got a budget in mind as I don't mind paying that bit more for a better unit!

I've read a lot about the Asus Transformer Prime but I understand there are some teething problems with it?? Have these been ironed out or is there another model in the offing from Asus?

Any suggestions welcome,

Cheers guys....

I bought a 2nd hand Xoom from M&M & it does the job Perfectly, Was 207 quid I think.
I have an Unlocked Monte Carlo on 3 PAYG & for 15 quid a month you get unlimited data so I tether when out & about which is as cool as ****.
Since having the Xoom I have moved my PC & Desk out of my front room & now have it in my kitchen diner & use my Xoom whilst in the front room. For surfing/emails/testing apps/reading etc etc etc it does the job perfectly & I don't need owt else.
I've been toying with the idea of getting a laptop or macbook for the front room but as the Xoom does what I need it to I'm not going to bother, Pretty good testament I'd say.
I would advise you get a 10 though as I can live with a 10 but couldn't a 7. :)

Just go for the Transformer Prime, I'm not aware of any (serious) issues with it.

I was sure I'd read somewhere that there were issues with the Prime that were so serious that they were going to release a whole new version in the next few months instead of fixing the original??? (I could be wrong though!)

Besides, 500-notes is probably over budget at this stage! The Xoom looks promising though if I can find it for the right price! (though surely the original Asus Transformer should plummet in price with the release of the Prime!?!?)

Any other suggestions guys?

Avoid the Prime, I was seriously looking forward to it but there are so many crippling issues that it's not worth the risk.

If you must have the Prime wait for the 1080P version out in a few months with all the serious issues sorted. You'd have to be mental to buy an OG Prime now.

I'm now waiting until the MWC 2012 conference and hoping Samsung's 11.6" monster is going to be launched soon.

Wireless and GPS problems due to the case. Some say there is a HDMI output and chargeing problem but I do not really know anything about that.

Yeah, wireless problems pretty much knackers any usefulness to me! :p

As I said though, probably cost prohibitive anyway so could do with something sub-£300 if poss!

How is the codec support on these tablets? My Galaxy S2 seems to play everything I throw at it through "MX Video Player" - I assume most tablets will be similar if you can download from the Android market or is that not how it works??

Worth keeping an eye on the Motorola Xoom I think, yesterday was £249.99 at Carphone Warehouse, didn't decide quick enough and today £329.99 :(

I have the Sony Tablet S and I have not had a problem with it, also the updates have always been very quick and simple. Plus you had the advantage to the PS Suite if you are into playing games.

Thanks for all the replies guys!

I'm quite drawn to the Sony Tablet S as it feels nice in the hand and appears to be up there spec-wise, but I have a few queries if anyone can answer these:

1) I've read that the storage on the 16GB version is limited and that movie's can't be viewed when read off the SD card storage - is this right? I mostly stream video's from my NAS anyway - will I still be able to do this?

2) How is the media file compatibility as a whole?? I have a Sony TV and the DNLA capability on it isn't the best so would want this tablet to handle most file types! (mkv's, divx, H264 etc)

3) I've read that the unit doesn't charge when plugged into a PC via the USB cable but rather it needs to be plugged into a wall charger - is this still right of has it been corrected with an update of any sort?

Thanks for any feedback......

If you have problems with the Wifi or the GPS on the Prime you will get a full refund!

Asus Prime is THE BEST android tablet out right now, bar none.

1. I have a 16GB version and yes I have found it a bit limiting on space, when you load it up with movies and stuff.

2. I have ripped a few blurays for its and I have not had a problem yet. However, I did rip these to MP4 I believe.

3. Yes that's correct. I believe there was talk of this changing with a future update.

I've got a Prime and it is perfect other than the GPS which in non existant. The Wi-Fi range beats both the HTC Wildfire and the Samsung Galaxy Ace. I'd say wait a month and see what happens in regards to the Prime. The newer model, the TF700 is the higher end version of the Prime that won't be out until late July.

Even looking at the bigger picture I'd say wait. Tegra 3 flattens Tegra 2 devices and many of the tablets that are coming out in the coming months will be Tegra 3.

I know what you mean but the odds of getting one of the new tablets with Tegra 3 for sub-£300 is pretty much zero! (besides, I want one now!!! :p)

Any other Sony Tablet owners out there that are successfully streaming vidoes from a NAS??
