i use taskiller cause i didnt like advanced task killer,

it kills tasks on screen shut off which works well for me, i found advanced didnt have hardly any of my programs on it :/

Autokiller (if you're rooted) on Extreme settings in combination with Autorun Killer, works perfectly for me on my Galaxy S.

Ive been using Advanced Task Killer, and when i first switch my phone on (Galaxy S), I have around 160meb of memory then over the dat it goes down to as low as 50-80mb, so Im guessing there processes open that it cant close. I tried Autokiller and it shows everything but im abit scaired i close soemthing improtant and ruin my phone XD. Thanks for the advice dude.

When mine gets to sub 40mb it starts to get slow, even with my exclusions on awaking I usually have 240mb free.. makes a difference

The best task killer is no task killer on an Android device.

I just do not understand how this can be true, my friends stock galaxy s was laggy as hell compared to my galaxy s. I then put app killer pro on his and now it's far smoother. Loads apps quicker, is not laggy when sliding across screens ect.

I know you are very knowledgeable about the Android OS, but .... maybe your rooted optimisedness is different to real world stock phones.

andoid OS deals with apps in a sepcific way, to utilise them properly when they are needed and when they arent.

your mates phone was crud cus hes messed too much probably :P

The Galaxy is not a stock Android powered device though, it's powered by Samsung's custom UI and customisations just like how SenseUI is on HTC phones and Timescape etc on others. And the Galaxy did have a lag issue which is said to be fixed via an update though so perhaps your friend has not done this?

At least from credible article online and various people in the XDA community you'll see that at the very least no stock Android powered device suffers from such issues that require a task killer to jump in to increase performance!

Having said that though your friend may well have installed any number of badly developed applications that just have not been made with resources in mind. My dad did the same on his Desire and until I pointed out where he was going wrong it felt quite sluggish at times (although SenseUI is quite sluggish at times anyway especially when scrolling homescreens, calendar etc).

Another reason to root ;)

I am using a galaxy s non rooted with launcher pro (not the default samsung ui). Does this mean if I uninstalled app killer pro I should not in theory experience laggy ness?

Depends on the apps you've installed and how much memory they're consuming I guess but essentially yes, Launcher Pro is pretty well optimised by default anyway!
