Need a new hdd can get ata or sata 1 on this motherboard asus a8v deluxe rev 2. Lookin to get the most space i can and also percendicular tech and gotta be near silent and fast.

Was thinking of segate 7200.10 320gb but that was a choice i was considering a few months ago so duno if theres anything better out there now. Any ideas for me?

I want to transfer my 30gb partitions to the new drive and make it c drive and have windows on. (how do you transfer a c drive 30gb with 2 partitions to a new drive and keep the drives C:)?

Fastest is a toss-up between the Seagate 7200.10 and the Western Digital AAKS series, flip a coin or go for the cheaper of the two as it won't make a lot of difference. The only other thing to consider is that some of the 7200.10s use a different motor to others which is meant to be a bit noisier. :)

Only difference between the two mentioned above is that Seagate offer a 5 year warranty compared to Western Digital's 3 year warranty. The Seagate is a little more expensive, but only by £2 at the size you want.

WD YSRE is faster than the AAKS series.
What's that based on?

The YS series is the previous generation to the AAKS. Every benchmark I've seen puts the AAKS significantly ahead.

I have 3 Seagates brought in the last few months and not had a noisy one yet.

I have a 7200.10 and a 7200.9 and cant really notice any speed difference between the 2.

picked up the 500Gb 7200.9 for £75 delivered, bargain.

^ Even the noisier ones aren't all that noisy, from what I've heard. I personally am not worried about getting a Barracuda even from all that has been said.

I will settle the ys vs aaks arguement on monday i have a new 320gb aaks
which im on now my rmaed ys re returns monday. But i have a nasty feeling theyve sent me my old unit back and have merely plugged it in to see if it works.

Why did you RMA the YS?
Was dead on arrival wouldn't format past 60% and fails in western digitals diagnostics tool
as well as all others i have tried it has bad sectors.
