I have a RAID 5 array using my onboard Intel ICH9 controller.
Basically for writing because of the lack of any write back cache, it plain sucks. 20MB/s sustained after the inital burst isn't good enough.
I had a PERC 5i previously but the thing went pear shaped after a week, so I'm a little dubious about using one of those again and on Intel chipsets you have to cover one of the PCI-e pins to get the machine to even boot.
What's everyones thoughts on an attractive alternative? What else is around that could be picked up for between £100-150? I know these things aren't cheap...
Any pointers would be appreciated
