Saab 9000 ?? 2.0 16v is a good engine, the 2.0 turbo better, and the 2.3 litre turbo pushes out over 200bhp. Not great off the line, but in gear acceleration is staggering for what it is (into Porsche territory).

It's a Saab, so you get air con, heated seats, electric everything, a heater that's up to full heat very fast. It's also big, comfy, roomy, stable if a bit soggy in the handling department. Will eat up the miles too (200k+ is common for them).

And yours for £1000-1500 for a total minter.

One of them shall be my next motah :).

I'd rather try my luck on the Omega reliability lottery then accept certain doom with a Rover 800

And that's because you've owned one? Or is that just what you've read.

The 7 or so 827's i've had have been fine, few leccy niggles, but the honda engine is good enough, pretty much bullet proof if looked after, i stripped down a 198k V6 engine to renew the head gaskets and that had very little wear. Turned out not to be the hg's but the rad which had been changed twice!!!!

The auto box's give up the ghost first.

The Turbo Vitesse i have is fine, fixed the dodgy windows and dash lights(dry joints on the fuse box).

For chuck away money they're good fun, I'd like a V6 manaul again though, the turbo is quickish 197bhp 7.3 secs to 60 and mine has a Torsen diff, but i miss the V6 noise.

Mind you with my heavy right foot, i only average 20-24mpg :o
Good job i don't pay for the fuel.

My bosses Vitesse is on 150k and it is spot on.
His dads 820 (m series) is on 180k+ is also spot on.
In the last 24 months neither of these cars have had any work apart from servicing :)

My vitesse is on 134k, the gearbox has been rebulit once, but that's a known weak link on the turbo engined Rover's.

But original turbo and engine are fine, had it up to 143mph on the clock the other day, (on a private road of course).

Did you go for steel caged bearings on the rebuild?

It was rebuilt around 40k ago, i bought it just over 3 months ago.

I'm guessing it was normal bearings as it's making a slight noise now, the boost controller doesn't help matters :p ;)

But it's all good fun, £550 with just over 3 months t&t. :)

That looks HUGE!

Im due to look at 2 Elite Omega's tomorrow... Will report back :)

Drove a 2.5 Mondeo today (st24) and tbh wasn't amazed by the performance over my 1.6.

You either had ridiculously high expectations of performance OR the one you drove needed the secondaries clearing out.

It's a 2.5 V6, 170bhp, and it does 0-60 in 8 seconds. No rocketship but it's CONSIDERABLY faster than an Escort 1.6 and it will feel considerably faster as well. It's quicker than an Automatic Omega V6, in any case.

I'd suggest it needed the secondaries looking at, imho.

Not that the ST24 is a good choice as a comfy cruiser - you are paying a premium for the ST badge and it's setup to be more sporting - lower suspension, no full leather, no cruise, etc. A Ghia X would be far more suitable.

Remember with an Omega the purchase price is just the start - they are eye wateringly expensive to run, mainly in terms of fixing things that continually break. This is not neccesarily a bad thing - the cost of buying and then constantly fixing an Omega is less than the cost of just buying an equivilent aged Lexus or something, but if you are on a budget it can hurt.
