Want to purchase something I can move around the house/chuck in a suitcase when i go on holiday etc. Best one I think I've seen so far is the Sony SRS-X55. Is there anything else that would be better in terms of sound quality? A big bonus for the Sony for me was the fact it had an actual sub where as others in this range don't seem to. This makes a big difference for me as I enjoy lots of bassy music :)

Bose Soundlink Mini. Hard to beat for bass. Only drawback is that it doesn't go as loud as the Sony but for normal volume levels I found it the best.

I got a Denon Envaya Mini after seeing it constantly praised by one Youtuber who specialises in these mini speakers. I got it for £100 because I was stubborn and wanted the white/orange one which is only sold in one place, but you can get the blue/black one for around £70. I have absolutely no complaints about it, though the battery life is a little average (~6-8 hours at a decent "room filling" volume).

Hi did you buy something yet?

I've just purchased the Sony SRS-X55 online, picking up at the weekend. I'm in the same boat - want something for the garden & going on holiday with, might even use as a speaker for my phone's radio alarm if its any good. I'll let you know what it's like.

I tried the SRS-X5 (the model before) in a shop today and it sounded "good" with plenty of decent bass, but there was nothing better in the shop to compare against. Apparently the new SRS-X55 has improved sound quality and has very good reviews, so I'm hopeful.

There was a UE Boom Box and a JBL quite cheap, but both lacked power and just sounded weak.

Or there is the Bose Soundlink III - this has good reviews on quality/bass too, but at £250 was too much for me.

The UE Boom is ok, but not great. Battery is epic though.

Having only paid £10 for mine (voucher and a deal on) im happy with it. But for around £150 I'd definitely be looking elsewhere.

I haven't purchased one yet! Ideally I need a comparison with the Bose Soundlink Mini as this seems to have really good reviews everywhere.

Picked up my SRS-X55 - it's nice, has a good, strong and warm bass and good clear mids/highs. Surprising amount of bass for such a small box, and you can crank it up pretty loud. Has a couple of sound modes (one standard which is quite bassy, then another classed as "surround" but just has more treble in my view). Both modes are useful depending on what you're listening to.

The controls and look of it are slick but a bit boring. You get small LED lights explaining what's going on, and a start up sound. However, I'm a bit irritated by it's auto-power off "feature" which turns it off after a few hours (don't know how many) of non-use. Whilst a good powersaver, it means I have to remember to turn it on every night to make sure it's ready as an alarm speaker in the morning. Testing it for a few days to see what happens.

This is a pretty good review of it:

I think it worth comparing against the Bose SoundLink Mini, if you can get to a John Lewis they sell both.

I've got the same one. Possibly a little too much bass for my liking but the sound was better than the UE. I did like the way you could put the UE on a tripod but the speakers on my phone sounded better. Great device for the price! Comes with a little carry bag too.
