Evening, folks.

Got some spare bits about now after upgrades and have a 650W PSU, 3060 GPU, 16GB DDR4 and a HDD doing nothing. Fancy sticking a decent little system together for a family member so need a board and CPU with cooler. Can you spec within range a smuch power as possible. Brand agnostic on this one. :)

Swap for a 12400F if you don't care about having backup graphics.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £307.98 (includes delivery: £7.99)

Cooler: this, it would be overkill and the box cooler is actually sufficient, but a good price.

Intel have made some BIG price cuts to the 12600K and 12700, so if you're going that route you might want to hold on until they filter through.

What timescale do you reckon on this going down then?

In the past, like when AMD/Intel have cut prices in China, it took a week or two before deals starting appearing in UK stores. There's no guarantee, since one store deals do happen in the US and I don't know how much stock they have left of 12th gen CPUs.

Would that board you linked take it?

i5-12600K, sure.

i7-12700/i7-12700K, for desktop and gaming, yes, but I wouldn't want to do long-run workloads on this board with i7/i9 (e.g. blender).

I'd consider adding a SSD to that setup, HDD will really hold it back. It's only £35 for a 1TB NVME these days, I think it would perform better spending a bit less on the CPU in order to get a SSD.
