Ive decided I want nothing more to do with weekend take-aways, fish and chip shops, Fast Food at work.

Ive just started working full-time, so Ive got the money to go shopping for my own food ingrediants rather than just relying on whats in the fridge.

Only problem is... I Havent got a clue about cooking.

I just want to be able to put a meal together.

My family is Italian so obviously My nan does a mean pasta, so I could learn from her I suppose.

But I want a book that I can learn from, for beginners obviously...

Which would you recommend? Ive seen a couple people mention Delia Smiths How to Cook, & Jamie Olivers... But I want to order it tonight so I need peoples opinions.

:) Tom

Who needs a book? Experimentation + Google is all I've ever used and things generally turn out well...

my old boss swore by the chef that used to have the really high hair/flat top.

Cant remember his name :)

He always said that the recipes are so easy or moron could still make fantastic food!

If you are learning to cook, then you cant beat Delia.

But I have one by AWT, and it is pretty good on the explanation front.

Ainsley aint to bad either.

How to eat By Nigella Lawson. I have that in my library. Highly recommended although its pretty heavy on the text at times

If you like seafood then I can recommend pretty much every book by Rick Stein(Again all in my Library ;) )Not because his speciallity is seafood but because he explains techniques on cooking seafood in really simple terms.

Never was a big fan of that chirpy Essex boy, Jamie Oliver, I found his show to be just a little too convoluted and staged when it was on the BBC. However check out his website Some good recipes on there. Also his last two books are absolutley fantastic. Jamies Italy really does do justice to Italian food. Basic ingredients, cooked and seasoned well to make a fantastic dish time after time. Cook with Jamie is also another fantastic book. I highly recommend the Lambs leg in Aubergine in red wine. Extremely tasty dish done with only a few ingredients

For good food and very good read why not try the Keith Floyd books. The Floyd on Italy book is superb. It has some really interesting stories and pictures and the food he makes is wonderful. I would recommend this one.

I base most of my cooking on this book. I just alter little things when I got confident with making his meals to produce my own variety.

Give it a try.
