Best breakdown cover? (any good or bad reviews will be greatly appreciated)

However you need a credit card handy.

2 options when breaking down:

1. Call them and they send recovery to you, you pay the people via credit card, then send the invoice to autoaid who send you a cheque.

2. You call whoever, pay and send that invoice to autoaid etc.

Read up on it and it's very reliable with no jacking around by autoaid.

Advantage I see is that I can call whoever I want to come collect me or do anything. RAC, AA, Greenlfag, Britannia etc etc.

I've done the above as suggested by Fox for the last few years. AA members get 20% discount in Moto service stations too. I reckon this saves me £50 a year so the AA membership works out very cheap.

AA through quidco. Job done, no faffing about claiming and getting random garages turning up to help.

Well then call whoever you want to turn up...

I purely see the advantage as I can have whichever breakdown company I want to come to me.

I don't see the paperwork as faff, I work in an office 5 days a week and post is collected from our office.

That autoaid sounds like a long winded way of doing it. I pay them and also pay the breakdown company, then claim it back off them taking 14 days, think I'll stick with the rac

That's all well and good if you're somewhere close to home, if I'm miles away I'm not going to know which garages are decent and im not exactly going to stop to post a "spec me a garage in Birmingham" thread on here

I've been with Autioaid for years. Had to use the service twice. Never any issues with getting repaid. All good. :)

I use Greenflag as it's a service I get through my bank account and on the couple of times I've needed to call them they've arrived fairly promptly and done what they were supposed to.

My only other experience is through the AA and they managed to rescue my car fine and took me back but wouldn't subsequently take my car to a garage, I'd have had to upgrade my membership if I wanted that which I wasn't willing to do - maybe that's entirely normal but since I had Greenflag via the bank account who would help out it wasn't worth upgrading. AA also keep sending me reminders suggesting that I might have forgotten to renew my membership, this would be all well and good but it's been well over two years now since I had a membership so it's clearly not just something that has slipped my mind and secondly the deals they are offering to "tempt" me back are rubbish.

What the utter hell

Call RAC then....or AA, or GreenFlag, you can call whoever you want..

And then go through 'No, I'm not a member but...' conversation each time? Will the AA/RAC even come out to non members on a chargeable basis?

Whats the point? I don't see what it offers over a proper breakdown service other than being a few quid cheaper?

RAC here, but also had the AA, Greenflag and several manufacturer assist policies over the years. I've found little difference when I've had to call them out to be honest. Might as well just go for the cheapest as they'll all have 'horror stories' where they have failed something or other.

Was AA and just received my renewal @ £125, so cancelled that and signed up to RAC through Quidco, works out at £50, which is pretty much what I paid last year for the AA. It seems it pays to bounce between them based on Quidco cash back, all seem to offer a similar service, as said above, horror stories about all of them.

Ive experience of breakdowns with both Greenflag and the AA and both did exactly what I needed from them.

Britannia rescue for me, I get it discounted via work, only used them once but the service was excellent. On scene quickly, helpful on the phone, got the highways agency out fore (not an especially good place where I broke down, so they got highways agency out to set up a small road block and control traffic whilst the vehicle was put onto the low loader). Recovery driver even bought my lunch on the drive back thinking about it! Lol.
