i just got the internet on my old pc. yay me. i need to get a decent browser for it but it is verry slow. (2.8ghz singlecore processor and less than 1gb ram.) so i need a lightweight, secure browser. im thinking about firefox but dont know wich versin. thanks
i would also like some antivirus software. i was thinking of zonealarm free firewall and avg antivirus. are here an better ones? thanks

just got firefox 3. it seems verry slow. then again ill install the os again in a min and see if it speeds up. isnt google chrome verry insecure? opera sounds good though. what do other people think of it?

Opera is great, easilly the best browser I've used :)

Avira & Opera ;)

Opera & Avast

Hold on there, Opera people.

I've just come away from five years of using Opera and now use Firefox. I have to say that FF is much better - and this is coming from a long-time Opera fan.

My reasons are:

It's quicker - yes quicker - than Opera; it can display webpages correctly when Opera has difficulty way too often; it has a countless amount of extensions for security and convenience.

I was a long-time FF avoider, but I have to admit v .3.08 is the better browser.

Lysander, you using adblock plus too?

I refuse to use the net now without it, there's just no point :)

using IE and avast. IE is Meh, does what I want it to do and Avast is amazing.

Ive used:-
Avira = decent but still got a virus
Norton = too slow)
McAfee = Only one that was ever paid for. Liked the UI but my Hard disk failed 5weeks later so cant say if its any good. Site wouldnt let me download full program again on my new harddisk.
AVG = epic fail, worst AV ive used. Program wont update, and virus fault says it full (with 3 torjans) and random graphical errors with the UI. Glad it was my bors PC not mine.
Avast = current AV. Runs quietly in the background and I barely notice it. Has a voice that tells when it up dates or detects a virus and scan is very quick.

Google Chrome isn't insecure at all.

For a slow PC: Chrome & NOD32

You may have problems with a few sites and rendering in Opera, but FF certainly isn't faster. Safari now is, but I hate its appearance (and chromes for that matter).

Firefox is bloody awful and I'll never switch to it.

Firefox has some excellent add-ons that make it far superior to other choices. :o

I've been using Opera for a few years now, and I've never needed it to do more than it does :o To be honest, I think the majority of Firefox users only use the extensions because they're there ;)
