best browser?

You may have problems with a few sites and rendering in Opera, but FF certainly isn't faster. Safari now is, but I hate its appearance (and chromes for that matter).

Firefox is bloody awful and I'll never switch to it.

I think "bloody awful" is a bit harsh. Why the hatred for Firefox? Because it's popular? I love Opera too but think FF is now the better browser, and for me it's faster than Opera on both my systems.

On my gaming PC FF is notably, undeniably quicker than Opera.

I think the majority of Firefox users only use the extensions because they're there ;)

Well indeed. It's important not to overload yourself. I do find Adblock, Linkification and Gmail in-browser notifier to be very useful.

I'm going to have to try Avast!

Been using Avira for over a year now, will see if Avast is any good me thinks :P

Web browser for me has to be chrome love the simple approach to it :)

If you tweak Firefox properly then it is faster and better than Opera (IMO).

With Vanilla settings Opera is faster.

But, the OP has asked for a nice light browser, so I recommend Chrome.

thanks. downloaded opera and firefox and so far opera seems the winner. i will probably miss out on some plugins and whatnot but its much faster/looks nicer. thanks everyone. i also downloaded avira before i formatted to seewhat it is like and i hated it. so im using avast. how good is avasts firewall? can someone recomend a better one? thanks

Firefox 3 + Avira

it is verry slow. (2.8ghz singlecore processor and less than 1gb ram.)

If you only use it for simple tasks like browsing, you should give one of the lighter Linux distros a whirl. Dual boot during evaluation, if you have the drive space.

You may be pleasantly surprised at how insanely fast some of them are.

well avast dosnt have a firewall but what i was saying is is it capable enough to negate the need for one? if not what should i use? thanks

Yes, Firefox is faster and more responsive on my fast desktop PC, but Opera is quicker on my sluggish laptop. However, overall the Chrome hybrid Iron is the most responsive browser I've used - and its free of the privacy concerns that plague Chrome.

My personal preference though is Opera in conjunction with the fabled Admuncher, alongside Avira Antivirus and Comodo firewall.

;)
