Hello all,

I'm looking to upgrade my old CPU / MOBO to something a little newer, I currently have a 4th gen I5, whats a good combo for around £300 or less looking for best bang for buck. I'll mostly be gaming/streaming, but it needs to be able to do light editing for vids.

I have the NZXT H200 case that I'd like to keep, so needs to be Mini Itx, tho I can always up size the case if needed.

Many Thanks

I'm guessing you're using DDR3 currently?

You'll need RAM also if you intend to upgrade to anything modern.
Yea, Currently on DDR3, the £300 budget is just for the cpu and mobo really, id be looking to get 16gb ddr4 that seems to be around £70 or so. but thats a different budget. :D

If you can factor in the ram within the £300 i'd take alook at that also.

My problem is I'm a little out of touch with PC's so no idea if the latest AMD at their price point is anygood VS the Intel lot.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £208.98 (includes shipping: £0.00)

Something like this would be would be a good starting point, after that you're looking at a Ryzen 3600 or 3700X depending on budget. It's worth pointing out that you can also find the Ryzen 2600 and 2700 for £100-120 respectively if you shop around, but obviously I can't link anything from competitors on here.

Honestly I wouldn't consider Intel at the moment unless there's something specific you do that benefits from Intel hardware.

Sorry to be a pain, but would I be better off getting 16gb fast ram like the one you listed, or get 32gb slightly slower ram?

Also nar ive always been intel not out of loyalty just it was good back then.

If you think you can make use of 32GB by all means go for it, while 3600mhz is optimal for Ryzen 3, the real world differences between it and 3200 aren't as large as some would have you believe.
