Best card for under £200?

The brand of GT wont make much difference, other than personal preference.

EVGA give a 10 year warranty and let you overclock and swap coolers in the warranty (i believe, please correct me if wrong)

BFG give a lifetime warranty

As for the rest, it's up to you. They are all made by the same company (Foxconn) at the moment so it's only the bundles and warranties that differ! (and pre-overclocks if you like that sort of thing)

As for the opteron, dont forget the members market. You can often pick up some nice gear in there for less than new on the sites. Of course warranties aren't so common unless they can be transferred but everyone there is trustworthy.

I dont believe your motherboard does support an opteron CPU, though. So check again the members market, you could pick up a nicely priced X2 (around £30 for the 3800 i should think) if you're lucky. Post in the Wanted section too.

Does my motherboard support the Opteron though?
If i were you i'd get the 8800GT and then a cheap X2 in the future. The Opteron 180 is overkill in terms of price.

If you can find a 4400X2 or Opteron 170 these will clock admirably on your board! But also don't rule out the 3800X2 or 4200X2 as these will generally clock quite easily to 2.6ghz and may even take you over 2.8ghz on decent air cooling.

I used an opteron 165 on a decent board and got 3ghz out of it on air. That got rid of any 'bottlenecking' worries! :)

I'm sure your mobo will support the chip but may need a bios flash to it's latest revision. You can find the model number on the ASUS site and check for compatibility there.

Thanks guys.

I've decided to spend an extra £30 and get the OcUK GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB that is on offer this week and at the end of January get a new mobo and and dual / quad core.

wise choice. :)

Although you might want to add a PSU to that list...
