Morning

I need to make up quite a few small network cables for my home network and am a little confused looking at all the different tools online!

I have the cable already but need the connectors and tools but it all seems fairly confusing!

Does anyone have good recommendations for the tools and connectors?

Ta :)

you aren't really meant to make up leads with cat6 .. If it's just a few then you should be ok but make sure they are crimped well. you can check them with a multimeter

Cat6 can be a bugger it's not meant for crimping as such, especially if its solid core, it's more infrastructure cabling which is best suited for punching down in to patch paneling and RJ45 terminal sockets

If its for home then just look for a cheap RJ45 or ethernet cable tester from eBay. That's what I use. LEDs show the pin outs working at each end.

I needed 14 short Cat 6 patch leads 400mm length, was going to make them, but, it was easier & cheaper to buy them ready made 99p each, plus I had a choice of colours which was advantage.

Thanks for the responses.

It sounds like it is probably not worth the hassle to actually buy all the tools and make them up, I might be better off actually making a schedule of what length cables I need and just buying them off OCUK or such. At least they will be machine crimped and such - would save me some agro I guess.

Just a shame as I have about 100m of Cat 6 cable hanging around!

+1 on DJMK4.

I've punched loads of solid core Cat6 into patch panels/faceplates etc. Absolutely fine.

But crimping my own cable? No thanks. I just buy premade. And if you are crimping, you want to be using stranded not solid core.
