Having owned belt and shaft drive bikes for the past 5 years I'm not used to having my back wheel covered in crap.

What's the best chain lube that does its job without making a huge mess?

I use Castrol Spray Lube/Wax and its not bad. I see a lot of good reports for the Wurth spray that Mr.E has suggested. Only thing it looks like its not lubed with the spray so you wonder if it needs more!

What about a Scotoiler?

May try and get some of that. The current lube I'm using does have quite a bit of flick in it, which is a bit irritating after spending ages sorting the bike.

Im currently using Muc off stuff. was advised to put it on after a run so it has a chance to penetrate. appears to work as my back wheel isn't covered in carp.

There chain cleaner is pretty good to.

I have that too, only used it twice and the first time I thought it was rubbish but on the second use its quite good.

I was the exact same.

One thing I cannot stand are scotoilers I have never had one but i think its just laziness plus i like to look at my chain and check it regularly.

If you do high miles they are fantastic. I miss mine and will get another. You have to adjust the flow rate depending on the temperature, but they keep the chain in very good nick and don't fling if adjusted appropriately.

I use some Holts chain lube from Halfords, looks like snot/shaving foam when it goes on, but it doesn't fling much off and lasts a good 500+ miles :)
